The Ford Explorer EV 2023 is the first of two all-electric Ford models that will utilize the Volkswagen MEB platform for electric vehicles. This collaboration between Ford and Volkswagen has resulted in the development of the Explorer EV.

The top variant of the Explorer EV will come equipped with dual electric motors, providing a combined power output of 340 PS and a torque of 545 Nm. This power allows the Ford Explorer EV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under 6 seconds. The car will also be available in two other RWD variants, with power outputs of 286 PS and 170 PS respectively. Ford aims to achieve a maximum range of 498 km on a full charge, and with fast charging capabilities, the Explorer EV can be charged from 10-80% in just 25 minutes.
The Explorer EV is a 5-seat SUV with a standard luggage compartment capacity of 470 liters, which can be expanded to 1,400 liters by folding down the seats, according to Ford.
The car features a 15-inch touchscreen entertainment system that can be adjusted according to the driver’s preference, concealing a separate lockable storage compartment for valuable items. The central screen supports wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, wireless charging functionality is available as a standard feature.
Other convenience features of the Explorer EV include heated front seats and steering wheel, a massage function for the driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and a hands-free power tailgate.
As for advanced driver assistance systems, the Explorer EV is equipped with Lane Change Assist, which aids in safe lane changes, and Safe Door Opening Assist, which alerts drivers to approaching cyclists, particularly in busy urban areas.
In Europe, the all-electric Ford Explorer will be available in two variants: Explorer and Explorer Premium, with an expected starting price of under 45,000 Euros (49,000 USD).
