The Peugeot 5008 was initially introduced in July 2009 as a mid-size multipurpose vehicle (MPV). However, in September 2016, it was reclassified as a mid-size SUV. In October 2013, an upgraded version with improved engine and exterior design was launched.

The second generation of the Peugeot 5008 is essentially a 7-seater version of the 3008 crossover model. However, for the third generation, there will be more differences between the two SUVs, as confirmed by prototype photos of the new Peugeot 5008.

We have recently spotted the prototype of the next-generation Peugeot 5008 during a test run. Based on our assessment, Peugeot will not make significant changes to the overall shape, keeping the box-shaped design to provide a spacious and comfortable interior. Meanwhile, the French automaker is also preparing to launch the new 3008 model, which will share similarities with the 5008 but boast an eye-catching design with a sloping roofline.

Unlike the new 3008, the 5008 does not feature a sloping roofline. Instead, the roof is almost completely flat from the A-pillar to the rear window. This design decision is to prioritize interior space, as the 5008 is a 3-row SUV model from Peugeot.

While it’s still too early to confirm whether the new model will be larger than its predecessor, it is expected to have a slightly longer wheelbase compared to the current 5008’s 2,840mm.

Looking at the powertrain, it’s evident that the prototype is not a fully electric vehicle. A portion of the exhaust system can be seen below the rear bumper, indicating that it may be equipped with a diesel engine, either with a displacement of 1.5L or 2.0L. However, Peugeot has previously announced that there will also be a pure electric version of the new 5008, developed on the STLA Medium platform, equipped with 87-104 kWh batteries.

We anticipate the new Peugeot 5008 3-row SUV to be launched around mid-next year, following the unveiling of the new Peugeot 3008 in September this year.
