Honda’s Electrified CR-V Models
Honda is committed to achieving carbon neutrality and reducing long-term carbon emissions by offering more electrified models in the coming years. One such model is the all-new CR-V, a popular crossover SUV that not only features an e:HEV (hybrid) powertrain but also a more powerful plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, significantly reducing emissions.
Looking ahead, Honda plans to introduce a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) variant of the CR-V. The CR-V e:Fuel Cell prototype was recently unveiled at the 2023 ENEOS Super Taikyu Series race in Japan. It is set to go on sale in 2024, adding to the lineup of electrified options for the CR-V.
While specific details about the CR-V e:Fuel Cell are still unknown, Honda has confirmed that it will feature a fuel cell stack that converts hydrogen fuel into electrical energy. The power output details have not been disclosed, but it is expected that the vehicle will be equipped with single or dual electric motors for propulsion.
One interesting feature of the e:FCEV is its integration with a 2.0L engine, allowing drivers to use the vehicle in areas without hydrogen fueling stations by relying on the plug-in hybrid system.
Honda plans to release the CR-V e:FCEV in 2024, targeting markets such as the United States and Japan. However, it remains uncertain whether the CR-V e:FCEV will be available in the ASEAN region.
