Toyota’s new factory primarily produces a completely new 7-seat SUV model, the Corolla Cross.

Toyota Motor plans to build its third automobile factory in India to expand production in the country. Currently, the Japanese car brand has 2 factories in India, located in Bidadi, Karnataka. Toyota’s third factory may also be located nearby.

The current factories of Toyota in Bidadi have a total production capacity of about 400,000 units per year, and the company’s new factory – expected to start operation in 2026 – will increase the company’s production capacity in the country by about 30%.

According to Reuters, Toyota wants this factory to start with a capacity of 80,000 – 120,000 vehicles per year and can increase to about 200,000 vehicles over time.

Currently, Toyota has also started developing a new multi-purpose SUV model for the Indian market. This model will be launched in early 2026 and will be the flagship product of the new factory.

Some sources said that the upcoming 3-row SUV model is the 7-seat version of the Corolla Cross. It is codenamed 340D and Toyota plans to produce 60,000 units per year.

The new SUV for India will be built on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform, which is also used by the Innova Hycross. Globally, the Toyota Corolla Cross has a wheelbase of 2,640mm, but the Indian version may be about 150mm longer to accommodate the third row of seats.

There is currently not much information about the design of the new SUV. Toyota is likely to make some changes to differentiate it from the regular Corolla Cross with a new grille, plastic bumper, and headlights. With the additional length, it will also have a completely new rear end. However, the upcoming 340D SUV will not be exclusive to India and is likely to be exported to other markets, although it is still unknown whether it will create a derivative version for Maruti or not.
