Volvo officially introduces its first MPV model, the EM90, developed by the Swedish car company and its parent company Geely (China). The Volvo EM90 shares many similarities with the Zeekr 009.
The Volvo EM90 is larger than the Lexus LM, measuring 5,209mm in length, 2,024mm in width, and 1,867mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,205mm and weighs up to 2,763kg.
In terms of design, the Volvo EM90 retains the signature features of the Swedish brand, such as the T-shaped taillights and the “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights. The front grille area of the EM90 is equipped with a matrix-shaped positioning light system, complemented by a glowing Volvo logo. The wheel rims feature an aerodynamic design and are available in optional sizes of 19 or 20 inches.
The EM90 offers a 3-row interior space with a 2-2-2 seating configuration. The second-row seats come with various features such as electric adjustment, reclining, heating, and cooling functions. Volvo also provides a folding table, footrest, and a 15.6-inch entertainment screen hanging from the ceiling to enhance passenger comfort. Volvo claims that the rear seats can be transformed into a “movie theater, meeting room, or bedroom” with just a touch of a switch or voice command to adjust the window settings, seats, screens, lighting, and air conditioning.
The dashboard features a minimalist design, with a 15.4-inch integrated screen controlling all the functions of the car. The EM90 also comes equipped with a Bowers & Wilkins audio system boasting 2,460W of power and 21 speakers, promising an immersive experience described by Volvo as a “mobile concert hall”.
The Volvo EM90 is powered solely by an electric motor delivering 268 horsepower to the rear axle, allowing for a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.3 seconds. The car is equipped with a 116 kWh CATL battery, providing a range of up to 738 km according to the China Light-duty Test Cycle (CLTC). The EM90 supports fast DC charging, capable of increasing the battery capacity from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. Additionally, the car features two-way charging, allowing it to provide power to other devices when necessary.
Volvo has started accepting pre-orders for the EM90 in the Chinese market, with prices starting from 818,000 Chinese yuan (around 2.75 billion VND). The Swedish car company is also considering plans to introduce this MPV model in other markets, although specific details have not been revealed.
