The Vietnamese small motorcycle market has recently been receiving a lot of attention with the unexpected announcement from Yamaha about their compact off-road model, the PG-1. The standout feature of the PG-1 is its rugged and dusty appearance. Meanwhile, Honda has yet to react to this news, but various private importing units have already started bringing in the Honda CrossCub 110.
The import units in Hanoi are currently offering the Honda CrossCub model at a price of 70 million VND. This is double the price of the Yamaha PG-1, which is easily understandable as the CrossCub is completely imported from Japan and carries the reputation of the Honda Cub model.
Unlike the Yamaha PG-1, the Honda model features cast wheels and off-road tires. The front of the vehicle has a distinct personal touch with no protective plastic details, which sets it apart from the classic Cub model that made a big splash in Vietnam in the 1990s.
The headlight is protected by a crash frame and the handlebars are visibly equipped with a traditional mechanical clock. The vehicle’s suspension features a telescopic tube with a rubber dust cover, which clearly highlights its off-road capabilities. The front brake is a disc brake with ABS, a system that is not equipped on the Yamaha PG-1. The rear brake is still a popular drum type.
The fuel tank has a capacity of 4.3 liters, which is smaller than the fuel tank on the Yamaha PG-1. The Honda CrossCub 110 is equipped with a single-cylinder SOHC engine with 2 valves, air-cooling, and a capacity of 109cc. This engine delivers a maximum power of 8 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 8.5 Nm at 5,500 rpm, along with a 4-speed gearbox.
The bike aims to deliver good performance on rough terrains, along with its unique appearance that sets it apart from the competition. Additionally, with its small engine capacity, the bike offers fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs, operating similarly to existing scooter models available on the market.
Compared to the Honda CT125, which some dealers imported earlier at a price of nearly 200 million VND, the price of 70 million VND for the CrossCub is quite affordable. However, when compared to the newly launched Yamaha PG-1, the Honda model lacks the price advantage, making it difficult to attract a large number of buyers.
