The Volkswagen Touareg 2016 is a unique option in the luxury SUV segment in the Vietnamese market. It combines the elegance, comfort, and convenience of a sedan with the power and performance to handle any terrain.

The Touareg is the result of a collaboration between Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche. Introduced in 2002, it was designed to be an off-road capable SUV with the amenities and driving experience of a sports car. The project involved over 300 members.

The first result of this collaboration was the PL71 platform, which was applied to the Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, and Audi Q7. However, each model has its own unique designs, features, and technologies.

The name “Touareg” is derived from the Tuareg people who primarily live in the Sahara Desert in North Africa. They are known as the “lords of the desert” and do not succumb to any difficulties.

Exterior Design: Simple German Style

The Touareg features a simple and understated design, true to the German aesthetic. The front fascia emphasizes horizontal lines and bears resemblance to other Volkswagen models like the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.

The car is equipped with Bi-xenon headlights integrated with LED daytime running lights. The headlights have automatic leveling and curve lighting functions. Other features include headlight cleaning, adaptive lighting control, automatic windshield wipers, and speed-dependent wipers.

The body design of the Touareg is not as athletic as other luxury SUVs, but it gives the car a commanding presence. The shape and lines of the Touareg resemble its siblings, the Porsche Cayenne. Other exterior features include power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals, auto-dimming and memory functions, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Interior Design: Understated Elegance

The interior of the Touareg exudes quality and sophistication. It features a predominantly brown color scheme with aluminum accents. Glossy Vavona brown wood is used on the dashboard, gearshift lever, and door trim. The combination of brown and black creates a warm and cozy feeling. The steering wheel is sporty and features multi-directional adjustment and integrated controls. The Touareg also has a touchscreen display with an infotainment system, dual-zone air conditioning, and a digital instrument display.

The Touareg offers ample space in the rear, even for taller individuals. It has a generous cargo space of 907 liters, expandable to 1,814 liters when the second-row seats are folded down.

The best part about the Touareg’s cabin is the seating.

The seats of the Touareg are wrapped in soft and comfortable Vienna leather. They can be adjusted in 14 directions and have a memory function. The seats’ contours provide a feeling of relaxation, even on long journeys.

Safety Features: Peace of Mind on Every Journey

The Touareg is equipped with comprehensive safety features, including 6 airbags, ABS, emergency brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, and electronic brake-force distribution. It also features electronic differential lock, cruise control, off-road ascent assistance, hill descent control, electronic parking brake, and a 360-degree camera system.

Performance: “German-Standard” SUV

The Touareg provides a pleasant driving experience, typical of German vehicles. It is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine producing 280 horsepower and coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Touareg demonstrates stability on the highway and off-road capabilities. It offers a quiet and comfortable ride, although its fuel consumption in city driving may be higher than expected.

Conclusion

In the Vietnamese market, the Volkswagen Touareg is a unique SUV that combines elegance, comfort, and versatility. It offers a driving experience true to the German standard. If it can showcase its strengths and value to customers, it has the potential to win over discerning Vietnamese consumers in search of a spacious and luxurious SUV. The Touareg is currently priced at 2.629 billion VND (including VAT).
