Honda SH
The Honda SH is part of Honda’s premium scooter line, and the imported SH models from Italy are especially popular among users in Vietnam, despite their higher prices. Aside from its appealing design, this scooter is well-known for its advanced technology and durability, which have been proven over many years in the Vietnamese market.
However, due to the challenging conditions and environment in our country, nearly every Honda SH scooter will encounter some issues after a certain period of use. In the following sections, we will discuss several common problems that arise with the Honda SH and provide solutions for them.

Head Shaking and Vibration when Riding on Rough Roads
This is a relatively common issue, particularly with the domestically-produced 2017 Honda SH models. Many users have voiced their complaints about this problem on various social media platforms and forums. After conducting some research and speaking with Mr. T, a knowledgeable scooter mechanic on Giang Van Minh street, we have gained some insights into the cause of the issue. According to Mr. T, the problem stems from the scooter’s large plastic head design, which is only secured by three screws inside the scooter’s head. When the scooter encounters bumps on the road, the head shakes and collides with the handlebars, resulting in noise. To resolve this issue, the scooter’s head must be disassembled, the screws tightened, and additional cushions placed between the plastic head and the handlebars, as depicted in the images below.
Loss of Power and Difficult Starting
This issue can usually be attributed to two main causes:
Firstly, it may be due to a dirty or clogged fuel line, a faulty fuel injector, or a weak fuel pump. To address this problem, it is recommended to take the scooter to a professional scooter repair shop for thorough inspection and cleaning or replacement of the necessary components.
Secondly, it could be a result of a problem with the camshaft and valve. In this case, the camshaft should be examined and replaced if necessary. If the camshaft is worn out, it will prevent the valves from opening and closing properly, leading to irregular and inaccurate fuel intake and exhaust, resulting in a loss of power.
Engine Noise, Increased Fuel Consumption, and Overheating
These issues often arise when the scooter’s air filter is not regularly cleaned or replaced, causing it to become dirty and clogged. As a result, there is inadequate air entering the carburetor, which leads to an excessive amount of fuel without optimal combustion efficiency. To rectify this problem, the air filter should be cleaned or replaced.
Coolant Boiling
This issue can be caused by various factors and is extremely hazardous. If you experience this problem with your scooter, it is crucial to promptly have it examined at reputable scooter repair shops. Some potential causes include a faulty radiator fan, a leaking radiator or coolant hose, or a malfunctioning water pump.
Backfire when Throttling Off
This issue occurs in all Honda SH scooters but is usually just a minor backfire sound caused by the exhaust gas processing system when there is an excess of unburned fuel. If the scooter is heavier than usual, it may be due to clogged air hoses or dirty air filters.
Difficult Starting
After prolonged use, most scooters may experience difficulty starting due to worn-out starter brushes. To resolve this problem, simply take the scooter to a motorcycle repair shop and ask the mechanic to replace the starter brushes, which typically cost around 150,000 VND. It is worth noting that in these cases, the mechanic may also suggest replacing the battery, but it is not necessary if the battery is still in good condition.
Sound from Dish and Clutch
This issue is quite common in Vietnamese versions of the SH scooters. Some users have reported this problem on the otofun forum, specifically with their SH150i 2017 model, stating that the muffler produces a loud noise when the scooter is in motion.
The primary cause is the subpar manufacturing quality of the domestic muffler, as well as dirt accumulation on the three-prong and bell-mouth after prolonged use. To resolve this issue, the muffler needs to be disassembled, examined, and cleaned or replaced if necessary.
In conclusion, with the Honda SH – a premium scooter line from Honda, it is crucial to regularly maintain and care for your scooter at reputable scooter maintenance centers. By doing so, you can ensure optimal performance and satisfaction with your scooter.
