A collision took place recently in Hà Nam province, China, involving a bright orange Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross “grass car” and a luxury Bentley Mulsanne with the license plate “quintuplet 8”. The incident occurred when the Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross rear-ended the Bentley Mulsanne at a low speed, resulting in no injuries but causing significant damage to both vehicles.
The accident scene
At the scene, the rear bumper of the Bentley Mulsanne was shattered and dislodged, while the front bumper of the Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross was also dislodged. Furthermore, the Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross appeared to be leaking engine oil or coolant onto the road.
Authorities at the scene of the accident
Following the collision, authorities promptly arrived to document the incident. Estimates suggest that the repair cost for the Bentley Mulsanne’s rear bumper will amount to approximately 100,000 Chinese yuan, which is equivalent to $14,400 or 327 million Vietnamese dong.
These figures are not surprising considering that the Bentley Mulsanne is priced at 4.98 million Chinese yuan, which translates to $717,000 or 16.3 billion Vietnamese dong, in the Chinese market. Consequently, the Bentley Mulsanne is approximately six times more expensive than the Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross.
Under Chinese law, the vehicle that rear-ends another is typically considered at fault. If the owner of the Bentley Mulsanne had insurance, the driver of the Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross “grass car” may be exempt from paying for the damages. However, if the Bentley Mulsanne is uninsured, the driver of the Dongfeng Fengshen H30 Cross will be liable for compensating the owner of the Bentley Mulsanne.

In Vietnam, the number 8 holds great significance as it is considered the luckiest number in Chinese culture. According to regulations, each city in China can only have one vehicle with the license plate “quintuplet 8” similar to the Bentley Mulsanne involved in this accident. Consequently, the “quintuplet 8” license plate is highly coveted by many wealthy individuals in China.
