Porsche itself has commented on the Ingram Collection, stating that “there is hardly any collection in the world, if not none, that can match Ingram in terms of quality”.
However, a devastating explosion occurred at a Durham residence where the Ingram Collection was stored on April 10th last week, putting the collection’s legacy at risk. According to Bloomberg, the explosion was caused by a gas leak resulting from a telecommunication company unknowingly damaging gas lines while excavating underground cable routes.
Those inside the building were swiftly evacuated, but unfortunately, the explosion occurred before the operation could be completed. At least one person was killed in the explosion, with 17 reported injuries, including firefighters. The injured count is expected to rise.
The force of the explosion caused a portion of the building to collapse, directly impacting the Ingram Collection. Aerial photos reveal extensive damage to the Porsche cars caused by smoke, fire, and fallen debris.
The Ingram Collection, owned by Bob Ingram, is renowned for its collection of rare and vintage Porsche supercars. In an issue of Bloomberg Business, the former CEO of GlaxoSmiteKline expressed his enthusiasm for the challenging process of sourcing rare components to complete his vintage cars. As of now, Bob Ingram has declined to comment on the incident.
