From June 3 to June 4, 2016, the DAS Volkswagen Fest 2016 took place in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, organized by Volkswagen Vietnam. The festival was themed “The New Mission” and aimed to provide visitors with an unforgettable German-themed autoshow experience.
The festival created a luxurious space to showcase an impressive lineup of Volkswagen cars, including the highlight of the festival, the 8th-generation Volkswagen Passat sedan.
All three 2016 Volkswagen Passat cars showcased at the event were from the highest-end GP version, priced at 1.6 billion VND. In the Vietnamese market, the Volkswagen Passat 2016 competes with the Toyota Camry.
The 2016 Volkswagen Passat is equipped with a turbocharged TSI engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters, producing a maximum power of 180 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Its 7-speed DSG automatic transmission allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h in 7.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 232 km/h.
In addition to the Passat 2016, Volkswagen Vietnam also brought the discontinued large-size Phaeton sedan from the UK and the US to Vietnam to serve the festival. If Vietnamese customers are interested in purchasing, the Phaeton will be officially distributed at a price of 3.038 billion VND.
The Volkswagen Scirocco GTS made its debut at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show and featured various exterior upgrades. It is equipped with a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine, producing a maximum power of 217 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 246 km/h.
At the festival, the Volkswagen Touareg also made an appearance.
In addition to the modern models, Volkswagen showcased vintage cars such as the Volkswagen Beetle.
The Volkswagen Beetle, first launched in 1938, is the oldest-lasting car in the world. Over a span of 65 years, more than 21 million Volkswagen Beetles have been produced.
In the Vietnamese market, the prices of Volkswagen Beetles range from 120 to 250 million VND, depending on the condition of the car.
In addition to the vintage Volkswagen Beetle, the event also featured the popular Mini Bus from the ’70s and ’80s. Nowadays, Volkswagen Mini Buses are often converted into mobile cafes or restaurants. At the DAS Volkswagen Fest 2016, these vintage cars served as a backdrop for visitors to take pictures.
In the near future, Volkswagen Vietnam plans to introduce models such as Beetle Design 1.2, Beetle Dune 1.4, Jetta 1.4, Golf 1.6, Passat 1.8, and Tiguan 1.4 to Vietnamese customers. The company aims to sell a total of 700 Volkswagen cars in the Vietnamese market in 2016.
