Meeting the Owner of Multiple Vintage Vespas in Thai Binh

The hair salon owner, who goes by the name Hoa Mascolo, is the proud owner of three vintage cars, consisting of two 1953 Vespa scooters and a 1963 Lambretta – Vespa’s rival.

More than a decade ago, at a time when luxury and expensive hobbies were still a novelty, Hoa Mascolo fearlessly spent around $1,000 (over 20 million VND) to indulge in his passion. This amount was the result of over 5 years of savings and dedication to his hairdressing career. Hoa Mascolo likes to joke that he “cuts hair to support his motorcycle habit.”

Ever since his wedding day, Hoa Mascolo has been infatuated with vintage Vespas. Even to this day, he still admires the elegant curves of a Vespa’s body. Furthermore, Hoa Mascolo is fascinated by the smoothness of the shifting when he rides a Vespa.

For over a decade, Hoa Mascolo has remained devoted to using his Vespas day in and day out, despite the occasional mishaps that have brought both laughter and tears.

On one such occasion, while cruising down the street, the exhaust of his Vespa fell off, causing a commotion and drawing attention from passersby.

When speaking with Xe Giao Thong, he shared: “Any individual with an appreciation for art or fashion should experience the joy of riding a Vespa as it exudes a sense of romance. When riding a Vespa, it is best to maintain the original charm of its color without any modifications.

A Vespa is very “easy-going” as long as you regularly check and maintain the clutch, air, and overall condition. This will ensure the smooth operation of the vehicle and the safety of the rider.”

Since he began collecting vintage Vespas, Hoa Mascolo has spent approximately 5-7 million VND on maintenance for each scooter.

If his collection of vintage Vespas were to be sold to another owner, it could fetch a price ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 USD.

“But I have no intention of parting ways with them because I have grown deeply attached to them,” he emphasized.

In addition to his Vespa collection, Hoa Mascolo also possesses a captivating Lambretta scooter.

While Lambretta may be an unfamiliar name to many, those in their 70s and older regard it as an indelible memory. Alongside Vespa, Lambretta was a renowned Italian scooter brand in the 1950s and 1960s.

Unfortunately, Lambretta’s factory in Italy ceased production in 1972, while authorized motorcycle manufacturers around the world, from India to America, were granted licenses to produce Lambretta scooters.
