When showcasing vintage cars from the pre-war era, it is of utmost importance to exercise extreme caution as even the slightest oversight can lead to unfortunate incidents. Below are a couple of examples:
During the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance 2016 event in South Carolina, USA, a rare vintage Rolls-Royce known as the Eight Convertible Sedan found itself involved in an unlucky accident, submerging into a nearby lake.
This unfortunate incident occurred shortly after the Rolls-Royce Super Eight Convertible Sedan won the Best of Class award at the aforementioned event. The vintage car quickly found itself underwater, sinking within a matter of minutes.
The Island Packet reported that the accident was caused by the fact that the Rolls-Royce Super Eight Convertible Sedan was not parked with the handbrake engaged. Despite the efforts of event attendees to retrieve the sunken vehicle, the 1,814 kg Super Eight Convertible Sedan proved too heavy to be salvaged.
“This is truly an unfortunate accident, and we sincerely sympathize with the car owner,” expressed Carolyn Vanagel, the head of the event organizing committee.

In order to recover the submerged vintage Rolls-Royce Super Eight Convertible Sedan, professional divers and a rescue company were called to the golf course where the incident took place. The cost of restoring the car to its original condition remains uncertain for the owner; however, it is fortunate that the Super Eight Convertible Sedan did not suffer irreparable damage.
