Introduced to Vietnam in the 1950s, Sachs Goebel motorcycles had a distinctive and captivating design compared to modern motorcycles.
Sachs Goebel motorcycles were started using a kick-start mechanism. To start the engine, the rider would stand and pedal until a cloud of white smoke emerged from the exhaust pipe, indicating that the two-stroke engine was running.
In addition to the starting function, the kick pedal on Sachs Goebel motorcycles could also be used as a bicycle pedal when the motorcycle ran out of fuel.
Sachs Goebel motorcycles were equipped with a 48cc 2-stroke gasoline engine. These two-stroke motorcycles were meticulously customized by motorcycle enthusiasts in Saigon, with parts such as rear shock absorbers, drive box, saddle, exhaust pipe, and rims still in relatively new condition, resembling the color of the sea.
The remaining Sachs Goebel motorcycles in Saigon are not considered rare. These two-stroke motorcycles are still being bought and sold on forums at prices ranging from 10 million VND. Some unique Sachs Goebel motorcycles are even sold for more than 30 million VND.
