The recent acquisition of the world’s largest collection of vintage cars by Jaguar Land Rover has caused quite a stir. The collection, previously owned by 53-year-old dentist James Hull, boasts a staggering total of 543 British-made vintage cars.

It is important to note that Hull’s collection was sold for £100 million back in May 2014. Only recently has Jaguar Land Rover been revealed as the new proud owner. However, they have chosen to keep the amount they paid for this prestigious collection undisclosed.

The collection features iconic vintage cars like the Jaguar SS100, XK120, and MK X, all of which were once owned by William Lyons, the co-founder of the renowned British luxury carmaker. Additionally, the collection includes notable vehicles like the Jaguar C-Type, D-Type, E-Type, and nearly 100 other Jaguars.

In addition to the Jaguar cars, Hull’s collection also comprises vintage Bentleys and Morris Minors. It boasts a Mini Traveller that belonged to Louis Mountbatten, an Austin previously owned by Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and a Bentley once driven by legendary singer Elton John.

Jaguar Land Rover has recently acquired the world’s largest vintage car collection.

All of the cars in Hull’s collection were manufactured in the 1930s. Among them are the highly valuable Jaguar XKSS and D-Type, with a combined worth of over £4 million ($6.7 million). The collection also features numerous vintage camping cars from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

The collection includes early Land Rover and Range Rover models in the 4×4 car section. Additionally, it houses a Sinclair C5, which was produced in the 1980s.

Jaguar Land Rover has stated that they acquired this collection to reinforce their commitment to the heritage of the British automotive industry. The vintage cars in the collection will be used to support the brand’s promotional campaign in both existing and emerging markets.

John Edwards, Managing Director of Special Vehicle Operations at Jaguar Land Rover, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with James Hull to secure the future of this unique collection of Jaguar cars, assembled over many years. Like James, we believe in preserving the heritage of Jaguar for future generations of car enthusiasts in the UK and around the world.”

James Hull, the former owner of the extensive vintage car collection.

Hull, the car collector, shared his thoughts about the sale, saying, “Over the years, I have traveled the world in search of cars for my collection. It is the result of a lifelong passion and dedication. Therefore, my aim wasn’t to secure the highest price for the collection. Rather, I wanted to ensure its future under the care of suitable custodians in my homeland,” he added.

“In recent years, I have learned more about the Jaguar Land Rover brand. They have borrowed cars from my collection multiple times for events like the Mille Miglia and have supported Jaguar’s presence in the Chinese market. They are the perfect guardians for my collection going forward. I know that I have placed the collection in safe hands,” Hull concluded.
