Sales Table of C-segment Sedans in November 2023 (unit: cars)
Mazda3: 716 cars
In November, the Mazda3 continued to lead the compact sedan segment with sales of 716 cars, representing a 3.31% growth. Year-to-date, this model achieved sales of 5,795 cars, solidifying its position as the top-selling model in the segment.
Mazda3
It comes as no surprise that the Mazda3 is preferred by Vietnamese customers. This Japanese car has a design that appeals to Vietnamese taste, particularly among women. In addition, the car is equipped with convenience and safety features and has a reasonable price range of 579 – 729 million VND for 5 variants.
Unfortunately, the engine of the Mazda3 is not particularly powerful and is somewhat overshadowed by its competitors in the same segment. Specifically, this model only offers one engine option, a 1.5L gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 110 horsepower and a peak torque of 145 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Kia K3: 341 cars
The Kia K3 remains in second place in terms of sales in the compact sedan segment in November 2023. Vietnamese customers bought 341 units of this Korean car, representing a 13.6% increase.
Kia K3
Similar to the Mazda3, the Kia K3 has an accessible price range, ranging from 549 – 739 million VND for 5 variants. However, this Korean car falls behind its competitors as it lacks advanced safety features such as ADAS.
Under the hood, the Kia K3 offers three engine options. The first is a 1.6L gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 126 horsepower and a peak torque of 155 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the variant. The second option is a 2.0L engine with a maximum power output of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The third option is a turbocharged 1.6L gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 201 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm, coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Hyundai Elantra: 331 cars
Following closely behind the Kia K3 is its fellow Korean competitor, the Hyundai Elantra. This Korean car achieved sales of 331 units, representing a 31.9% increase.
Hyundai Elantra
Compared to the Kia K3 and Mazda3, the Hyundai Elantra has a slightly higher price range of 599 – 799 million VND for 4 variants. The strength of this model lies in its diverse range of engine options, offering three choices for consumers.
The first option is a 1.6L gasoline engine (Gamma II) with a maximum power output of 128 horsepower and a peak torque of 155 Nm, paired with either a manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the variant. The second option is a 2.0L engine (Nu) with a maximum power output of 159 horsepower and a peak torque of 193 Nm, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The third option is a turbocharged 1.6L engine (N-Line variant) with a maximum power output of 204 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In addition, the Hyundai Elantra also offers notable features such as LED headlights, hands-free trunk release, automatic wipers, sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, 10-way power-adjustable leather seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone independent automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and a 6-speaker audio system.
Honda Civic: 104 cars
In November 2023, the Honda Civic made a comeback by securing the fourth position in the segment with sales of 104 cars, representing a 30% increase. However, when considering the cumulative sales in the 11 months of 2023, the Honda Civic still ranks at the bottom of the segment.
Honda Civic
One of the reasons why the Honda Civic has not been well-received in Vietnam is its relatively high price range, ranging from 730 – 870 million VND for 3 variants. However, the car compensates for this with its highly-rated driving experience and numerous convenience and safety features.
The engine of the Honda Civic is a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine, capable of delivering a maximum power output of 178 horsepower and a peak torque of 240 Nm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a front-wheel drive system.
Additionally, the Honda Civic offers features such as a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, leather seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
The safety features of the Honda Civic are also diverse, including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive High Beam (AHB), Low-Speed Follow (LSF) adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).
Toyota Corolla Altis: 80 cars
Replacing the Honda Civic in the last position of the compact sedan segment is the Toyota Corolla Altis. This Japanese car achieved sales of 80 units in November 2023, representing a 17.5% decrease.
Toyota Corolla Altis
In early October 2023, the Toyota Corolla Altis received a minor facelift. With the new update, the Toyota Corolla Altis gains additional features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and a 360-degree camera.
Unfortunately, the engine options of the Toyota Corolla Altis remain unchanged. It still offers two options. The first is a 1.8L gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 138 horsepower and a peak torque of 172 Nm. The second option is a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.8L gasoline engine and an electric motor, delivering a combined power output of 122 horsepower. Both options are paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a front-wheel drive system.
The current price range of the Toyota Corolla Altis ranges from 725 – 870 million VND, comparable to that of the Honda Civic.
