In November 2023, the Vietnamese automobile market experienced a recovery during the end-of-year shopping season. However, not every model in the mid-size sedan segment saw an increase in sales, including the Toyota Camry, which is considered the segment leader.

Sales table for mid-size sedans in November 2023 (unit: cars)

Toyota Camry: 133 units

In November 2023, only 133 individuals opted for the Toyota Camry as their new four-wheeled companion, marking a 12.5% decrease compared to the previous month. Despite the decline, the Toyota Camry remains the best-selling mid-size sedan in the Vietnamese market for both November 2023 and the entire year.

Toyota Camry

In Vietnam, the Toyota Camry is available in 4 different variants with prices ranging from 1.105 to 1.495 billion VND. Despite its higher price point, this mid-size sedan continues to dominate the segment due to its reputable brand, elegant design, well-equipped features, comprehensive safety measures, and a wide range of engine options.

Specifically, the Toyota Camry in Vietnam offers the most engine options in the segment, totaling 3. The first option is a 2.0L gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 206 Nm, paired with a CVT transmission. The second option is a 2.5L gasoline engine, generating a maximum power output of 207 horsepower and a peak torque of 250 Nm, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, the hybrid powertrain option combines a gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a CVT transmission, resulting in a total power output of 264 horsepower.

In addition, the Toyota Camry is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 active safety package, which includes advanced features such as lane keeping assist, emergency automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and intelligent headlights. The higher-end variants of the car also feature 8 sensors and a 360-degree camera.

Kia K5: 102 units

In recent months, the Kia K5 has consistently surpassed the Mazda6 and secured the 2nd position in the mid-size sedan segment. In November 2023, the model sold 102 units, recording a 7.3% increase.

Kia K5

Compared to the Toyota Camry, the Kia K5 boasts a lower price range, starting from 859 to 999 million VND. Assembled locally, the Kia K5 also benefits from a 50% reduction in registration fees granted by the Vietnamese government until the end of 2023.

The Kia K5 stands out with its youthful and stylish exterior design. Notable features include LED headlights, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, power-adjustable front passenger seat, head-up display (HUD), 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bose 12-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.

Under the hood, the Kia K5 offers 2 engine options. The first option is a 2.0L Nu MPI engine, producing a maximum power output of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 2.5L Theta-III GDi engine, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, generating a maximum power output of 191 horsepower and a peak torque of 246 Nm. The car operates on a front-wheel drive system.

Mazda6: 85 units

Similar to its competitor, the Kia K5, the Mazda6 also experienced a slight increase in sales in November 2023. The model sold 85 units, indicating a 3.6% growth. However, this is still insufficient for the Mazda6 to improve its ranking and surpass the Kia K5 and Toyota Camry.

Mazda6

The Mazda6 shines with its competitive pricing in the segment, starting from 779 to 914 million VND. Additionally, as a locally assembled car, it benefits from a 50% reduction in registration fees provided by the Vietnamese government. Despite its affordability, along with its attractive design and well-equipped features and safety measures, the Mazda6 still falls short of surpassing the Toyota Camry.

The Mazda6 is equipped with notable safety features, including blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, and 6 airbags. By opting for the optional i-Activsense package, the car can also be equipped with additional features like radar-based cruise control, forward/reverse emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and smart brake support (SBS).

Under the hood, the Mazda6 offers 2 gasoline engine options, both paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0L SkyActiv-G engine delivers a maximum power output of 154 horsepower and a peak torque of 200 Nm. As for the 2.5L SkyActiv-G engine, it provides a maximum power output of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 252 Nm.

Honda Accord: 10 units

Once again, the Honda Accord occupies the last position in the mid-size sedan segment. In November, the model sold 10 units, registering a remarkable growth rate of 42.8%.

Honda Accord

Several factors contribute to the low sales figure of the Honda Accord and its continuous position among the least popular models in Vietnam. Firstly, the car is only available in 1 variant with a high price tag of up to 1.319 billion VND. As a completely imported vehicle, the Honda Accord does not benefit from the Vietnamese government’s registration fee reduction policy.

However, this Japanese model still has its advantages, including a spacious interior and highly-rated driving experience within the segment. It is equipped with a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 1.5L gasoline engine, generating a maximum power output of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 260 Nm. The engine is paired with a CVT transmission featuring Eco and Sport driving modes.

In terms of safety, the Honda Accord offers active safety features similar to its competitors, such as pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, adaptive automatic headlights, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
