One of the new features in the draft amendment of the Vietnam Road Administration is that individuals with expired driver’s licenses of 3 months or more must retake both the theory and simulation exams.
The Vietnam Road Administration is currently finalizing the draft amendment to the Decree on training, examination, and issuance of driver’s licenses (GPLX). The draft amendment of Article 1, Article 3, and Article 6 of Article 36 stipulates:
Individuals with expired GPLX between 3 months and less than 1 year must retake the theory and software simulation exams in order to renew their GPLX.
From 1 year onwards, individuals must retake the theory and software simulation exams, as well as practice driving in pictures and on the road, in order to renew their GPLX.
The representative of the Vehicle and Driver Management Division (Vietnam Road Administration) stated that the provisions on training, examination, and issuance of GPLX are implemented in accordance with government regulations.
Recently, the Ministry of Transport assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to study and collect feedback from agencies, departments, and localities in order to supplement and amend Decree 04 on road training, examination, and issuance of GPLX.
In compliance with the Ministry’s guidance, the Vietnam Road Administration has incorporated the feedback and suggestions from localities. Currently, the administration is collaborating with the software development unit to adjust the simulation test.
The representative of the Vietnam Road Administration stated: “We will adjust the scenarios to reflect reality. We will modify the scoring method to allow for more time to recognize dangerous situations. Additionally, we will exempt individuals who already have driver’s licenses but need to retake them due to expiration from this test.”
