Despite being part of the same group and using the same parts, the price of Rolls-Royce spare parts is significantly higher than those of BMW cars.
Recently, Fixitsteven – the owner of a Rolls-Royce Wraith, called the service center to inquire about the price of replacing the horn spiral (a coiled cable located in the steering wheel that connects to electronic components such as the horn, airbag, or control buttons). The service center quoted a price of $2,500 for this spare part.
After some research, Fixitsteven found an alternative replacement in the form of a horn spiral from a BMW 6-Series. The spare parts for these two cars are identical. However, the service center for BMW quoted a price of only $160. This means that it is about 15 times cheaper than the Rolls-Royce counterpart.
This user’s sharing immediately attracted the attention of the online community. Many people were skeptical about how many percent of the components from Rolls-Royce cars are sourced from BMW.
In fact, this is understandable as the Rolls-Royce Wraith in the post shares the same chassis with the BMW 6-Series/7-Series, so both models share common components, which can be easily understood.
