Volvo concluded 2023 with a remarkable milestone, achieving a new global sales record of 708,716 units.

As reported by Motor1, Volvo attained its highest-ever revenue by selling 708,716 vehicles in 2023, representing a 15% increase compared to the previous year. The XC60 emerged as the company’s top-selling model, with an impressive sales figure of 228,646 units (up from 195,338 units in 2022). Close behind were the XC40 (200,670 units) and the XC90 (107,549 units), both experiencing significant sales growth compared to the previous year.

Volvo’s recent business strategies have been primarily focused on electric vehicles, and this approach proved to be highly successful, resulting in a 70% increase in sales in this segment. In 2023, Volvo sold 113,419 electric vehicles, accounting for 16% of their total sales. Additionally, the sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) also increased by 10% last year.

Although SUVs dominated the automotive market in 2023, leading to the discontinuation of production for several mid-size and large sedans such as the S60, V60, and V90 in the United Kingdom, Volvo remains committed to developing a diverse range of sedans and wagons. The company is determined to further expand its vehicle lineup by introducing the all-electric ES90 sedan and the EM90 electric MPV.

Volvo has made a bold commitment to discontinue the production of diesel-powered vehicles by early 2024. While the company has already introduced the EX90, the older XC90 model with an internal combustion engine is still available for now. The anticipated release of new models, such as the affordable electric vehicle EX30, is expected to propel Volvo’s sales figures to 1.2 million units by 2025.
