The car license plate auction on January 12, 2024, witnessed an intense bidding process for a particular license plate, which was sold in record time, leaving everyone astonished.
The bidding period for the license plate 30L-088.99, from 08:45 to 09:15, was exceptionally eventful. Starting at 45 million VND, the bidding price rapidly escalated to 75 million VND, 150 million VND, 155 million VND, 160 million VND, and 250 million VND. At one point, a participant placed only 2 bids before abruptly stopping. The final bid was an astounding 265 million VND, which was three times the minimum bidding increment of 5 million VND. The most astonishing bid came in at 2.7 billion VND.
Suddenly, another participant added an extra 5 million VND, either accidentally or intentionally, securing the license plate for a final price of 2.705 billion VND. This happened within a span of less than 9 minutes, with 21 minutes remaining in the auction period, and no further bids were made.
Therefore, the license plate 30L-088.99 found its highest bidder in less than 9 minutes, selling for a price of 2.705 billion VND. The winning bid was 5 million VND higher than the second highest bid, but the difference was significant compared to the third highest bidder, who bid up to 2.7 billion VND.
According to the auction regulations, the winning bidder must pay the full amount within 15 days of the result announcement. This amount is deducted from the previous deposit of 40 million VND, but does not include the vehicle registration fee.
Within 12 months, the auction winner must register the license plate for their car. Failure to do so within the given timeframe will result in the transfer of the license plate to the registration and vehicle management system, with no refund for the auction winner.
Auctioning car license plates isn’t just about making money.
On the afternoon of October 11th, following discussions, the National Assembly Standing Committee reached an agreement to submit a Draft Resolution on piloting the granting of the right to choose automobile license plates through auctions to the National Assembly, with the aim of granting more authority to the Government.
