On January 13, 2024, Indonesian President Joko Widodo showed his support for VinFast’s investment plan in Indonesia during his state visit to Vietnam.
Chairman of Vingroup Corporation and Global CEO of VinFast, Pham Nhat Vuong, personally accompanied President Joko Widodo to visit the electric car production workshop at the Complex to welcome him.
After touring the factory and getting acquainted with VinFast’s electric car models, the Indonesian President expressed his satisfaction with the visit and promised to facilitate VinFast’s completion of the necessary investment procedures for production and business in the Indonesian market.
Having been introduced to VinFast’s electric car fleet, President Jokowi praised VinFast as one of the fastest-growing automakers. “Electric cars are a rapidly growing industry, and I hope VinFast will make investments in Indonesia as soon as possible,” President Jokowi stated.
President Jokowi envisions that VinFast’s presence in Indonesia will accelerate the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country and potentially lead to collaboration with Indonesia’s water battery industry in the future.
Under the long-term plan, VinFast will commit to investing at least $1.2 billion in Indonesia. In addition to distributing imported cars from Vietnam in the initial stage, VinFast plans to allocate $200 million to construct an electric car manufacturing facility in Indonesia, with a projected annual production capacity of 30,000-50,000 vehicles.
