In the past, the urban SUV market was not as developed as it is today. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was plain, the Nissan Juke was unique but too expensive for most Vietnamese users, and the Ford EcoSport, although affordable, had an impractical design.
Kia Soul had a “unique” design that set it apart from other cars on the Vietnamese market at the time. Its design was quite particular and only appealed to a certain type of user.
Kia Soul represented a “unique” Korean car in this segment, which was imported into Vietnam. Its price, around 800 million VND for the high-end version, was relatively high compared to other cars in the market at that time, especially for a Korean car.
Similar to the Nissan Juke, Kia Soul had a distinctive appearance that catered to the tastes of Vietnamese people at that time. It had a boxy shape, similar to Kei cars, and came in various colors. The vertical taillight cluster along the C-pillar was one of the impressive highlights of Kia Soul’s exterior design. Kia has maintained this traditional design in the new generation Soul, but this model has not been distributed in Vietnam, possibly because the official distributors understand Vietnamese people’s aesthetic taste.
Kia Soul appealed to women, but men did not show much interest in this model and often criticized it for being ugly. However, its Kei car-inspired design optimized the interior space, providing ample room for a family of four and storage space behind the car.
Currently, in the used car market, a 2014 Kia Soul is priced around 470 million VND or less, although the availability is limited. Older models, such as the 2009 Kia Soul, have a selling price below 300 million VND. The price is considered reasonable for a 5-seater car with high ground clearance, but most buyers prefer newer models from 2014 to 2016.
Although the interior and exterior of Kia Soul are relatively simple, the driver’s compartment has many mechanical buttons, and the entertainment system is basic. The car has a sturdy appearance and offers various amenities, including a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with heating and cooling, automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights, cruise control, start-stop ignition, and 3 driving modes (Normal, Comfort, Sport).
The high ground clearance model is equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that delivers a maximum power of 156 horsepower and a maximum torque of 192 Nm. It is quite impressive compared to other B-segment SUV models, which typically have a 1.5-liter engine.
Kia Soul is equipped with various safety technologies, including a body stability system, emergency brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability control, rearview camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
Despite being 10 years old, the fact that Kia Soul was imported won over many users who preferred “imported cars”.
