The Ford Explorer 2025 has undergone some exterior design changes that are quite similar to the Explorer for the Chinese market, while the interior has received many notable upgrades, the highlight of which is the larger 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Ford has also streamlined the lineup of the SUV. Meanwhile, the drivetrain options remain the same as the predecessor, except for the discontinued hybrid version.

Notable changes to the exterior are focused on the front of the vehicle with a larger grille, smaller LED headlights on each side, and modified air intakes. The taillights maintain the same shape as before but have sharper lighting graphics and extend to the trunk door.

The Ford Explorer 2025 is offered in Active, ST-Line, Platinum, and ST trims. Each trim features a unique grille design and different wheel designs to create differentiation. Although the Timberline trim is not currently included in the lineup, Ford has revealed plans to introduce a new off-road-focused trim soon.

New for the Ford Explorer 2025 is the availability of Vapor Blue Metallic paint for all trims except Platinum. Additionally, the ST trim offers an optional black roof and new 21-inch alloy wheels.

Moving inside, the Ford Explorer 2025 pushes the dashboard forward, increasing the space for front passengers and improving the layout of the instrument cluster.

The central part of the dashboard features a new 13.2-inch touchscreen that is positioned horizontally, combined with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The new screen layout looks more sophisticated compared to the full-width screen setup of the Explorer for the Chinese market.

The vehicle is equipped with the brand’s new Digital Experience infotainment system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity and voice assistants like Google Assistant or Alexa Built-in. Passengers can watch videos or play games on the main screen while the digital instrument cluster can now display maps.

Ford has also stated that they have improved the material quality in the cabin. Additionally, the American automaker has equipped dual wireless charging pads on the center console, along with 8 USB-C ports and three 12-Volt power outlets.

The Ford Explorer 2025 features comprehensive ADAS systems called Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+. However, the important addition is the inclusion of Ford’s BlueCruise system, allowing for hands-free driving on highways.

The powertrain on the Explorer 2025 remains unchanged from the predecessor. The vehicle is offered with a 2.3L 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine producing 300 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque on the Active, ST-Line, and Platinum trims. The ST trim, on the other hand, is equipped with a 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine that generates 400 horsepower and a maximum torque of 563 Nm. The more powerful V6 engine is only available on the Platinum trim.

All trims come with a re-tuned 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or optional 4WD. The ST trim also adds paddle shifters on the steering wheel. As mentioned above, the Explorer Hybrid is no longer part of the Explorer 2025 lineup.

The first Ford Explorer 2025 models are expected to arrive at US dealerships in the second quarter of this year with a starting price of $41,220 (including shipping fees), which is $2,765 higher than the previous version.
