After receiving reports from the Japanese car manufacturer about fraudulent safety test behavior in December 2023, the Japanese Ministry of Transport issued a temporary suspension order on the transportation of Daihatsu vehicles – a subsidiary brand of Toyota worldwide, until they are confirmed to meet regulations. Daihatsu has suspended all operations at its factories in Japan.

The Ministry of Transport’s inspections found irregularities in 46 vehicle models. Testing was conducted on 45 vehicle models, excluding one that was still under development.

In a statement released on January 19, 2024, the Japanese Ministry of Transport gave approval to 5 vehicle models manufactured by Daihatsu, including Daihatsu Gran Max, Toyota Town Ace Van, Mazda Bongo van, Toyota ProBox, and Mazda Familia Van, stating that these models meet the standards set by the Ministry.

The Japanese Ministry of Transport announced that they will continue testing and announce the results for the remaining models. As for Daihatsu, the company stated that they will start preparing for the resumption of production for these 5 vehicle models but did not disclose a specific timeframe.
