According to the disclosure from Toyota Indonesia’s leadership, it is likely that the hybrid version of Avanza will be launched soon to compete with Suzuki Ertiga and Mitsubishi Xpander.

Recently, Mr. Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of Toyota Indonesia (PT Toyota Astra Motor), revealed the possibility of launching the hybrid version of Toyota Avanza. Toyota Innova Cross Hybrid dominated the hybrid car market in Indonesia in 2023, which shows a high demand from customers for environmentally friendly vehicles.

The launch date of the Avanza hybrid has not been confirmed yet. Mr. Anton only mentioned that Toyota is studying the appropriate conditions, including consumer demand and government support.

Until now, Toyota has introduced 3 hybrid car models sold in Indonesia, which are Innova Cross, Yaris Cross, and Corolla Cross. The competition in the hybrid car segment is increasing in Indonesia, with rival brands such as Suzuki Ertiga, Honda CR-V, and Mitsubishi Xpander already having hybrid versions.

Toyota is very serious about developing hybrid cars in Indonesia in particular and the Southeast Asia market in general. The company has established a dedicated team to research this issue. This team may have proposed the launch of a Toyota Avanza variant using a hybrid engine.

The Avanza Premio is currently being sold in Vietnam and is imported directly from Indonesia with 2 versions, manual and automatic, with corresponding prices of 558 million and 598 million VND. The car is developed based on the DNGA platform of its subsidiary, Daihatsu. The car competes in the small MPV segment with rivals like Mitsubishi Xpander, Suzuki Ertiga, and Hyundai Stargazer.
