The new generation Mitsubishi Pajero is likely to be developed on a new chassis and positioned in the luxury segment.
First introduced in 1981, Pajero is one of the iconic lines of the Mitsubishi brand. However, the company’s financial difficulties and disappointing sales led to the discontinuation of this name in 2021. Currently, the Pajero lineup only has a smaller “sibling”, the Pajero Sport.
In early 2023, Mitsubishi’s leadership revealed that Pajero will return to the market in the period from 2025 to 2027. This SUV model is likely to have a new chassis system developed by the company itself, reducing dependence on the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance.
Moreover, according to Best Car – Japan’s leading automotive magazine, the new generation of this model is likely to be upgraded to the luxury segment, in the same class as the Range Rover or Lexus GX. This information is also consistent with the previous statement by Mitsubishi Motors CEO, Takao Kato. He mentioned that Pajero plays a special role for the brand and the comeback of this SUV is like a “dream come true”.
The chassis equipped on the new Mitsubishi Pajero could be an upgrade from the Outlander. This system is suitable for both hybrid and electric charging engines. Therefore, customers can expect a Pajero PHEV version.
Initially, the company planned to use the new Triton chassis. However, this platform was evaluated as unable to provide the comfort experience like the Outlander. Therefore, it is not a suitable choice for the “Japanese Range Rover” as expected by the company.
