On January 18, Honda Vietnam (HVN) and Lotteria Vietnam officially announced their partnership to implement an electric delivery vehicle project.
HVN has always prioritized the application and transition to clean energy in its business operations. This is not only a positive factor for the environment but also brings strategic and economic benefits for the sustainable development of the company and society as a whole.
As part of the efforts towards carbon neutrality, HVN is partnering with Lotteria to implement a project using 100 Benly e-scooters for delivery purposes at Lotteria’s nationwide store system.
Carbon neutrality by 2050 is the strategy of the Vietnamese Government and also the goal that Honda Global aims for. In that process, Honda Motor targets a 34% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to the 2020 fiscal year.
HVN has been closely following Honda Motor’s direction in comprehensive solutions towards carbon neutrality, from promoting energy savings during production processes such as implementing rooftop solar power systems, efforts in environmental protection through tree planting activities, to introducing HEV vehicles in 2023. Alongside these efforts, HVN has been preparing for the future of electric vehicles in Vietnam, such as the electric PCX scooter rental program through the HEAD system and collaborating with VNPost on an electric delivery vehicle project.
Based on the specific requirements of the delivery service industry, which has a high frequency of vehicle usage, HVN chose the transportation sector to pilot this project, which will serve as a foundation for expanding the adoption of green vehicles within the community. In 2022, HVN collaborated with Vietnam Post to deploy electric scooters for delivery services and piloted a battery swapping model to assess its feasibility in a business-to-business transportation model.
Building upon these positive results, HVN will continue to expand the scale of this collaboration model in 2024 with Lotteria Vietnam. In a ceremony on the morning of January 18, 2024, HVN officially handed over 100 Benly e-scooters for delivery on Lotteria’s nationwide system.
In addition to its optimized design for cargo transportation, its compact size suitable for traffic conditions in Vietnam, especially in urban areas, and its ability to enhance delivery staff productivity and job quality, the Benly e-scooter uses the MPP2 – a removable battery model currently used by Honda for electric scooters in Japan, China, and Thailand, with improved durability and a travel range of up to 72.8km.
Although the transition to clean energy still faces many challenges, electric vehicles are considered highly promising in meeting the requirements of the transportation and logistics service industry.
Switching from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric vehicles not only contributes to environmental protection by reducing emissions and air pollution, but also receives many economic and operational advantages for businesses. It is also an action by HVN to support the Ho Chi Minh City government’s roadmap for transitioning to green energy in the transportation sector.
HVN and Lotteria expect that this collaborative project will be a solid foundation on the path to clean energy transition, aligning with the Government’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, protecting the environment, and building a sustainable future.
