Recently, Toyota surprised everyone with the introduction of a convertible version of the Crown Crossover model through a 30-minute video released by the internal magazine Toyota Times.

Compared to the original version, the convertible Crown has been stripped of its roof and pillars, while the rear design has also been refined to suit the new look.

The convertible version of the Toyota Crown still retains its luxurious interior space with seating for 5. This convertible car does not have a retractable roof, thus preserving the spacious cargo area.

In terms of performance, the convertible Crown still features a 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine combined with two electric motors, just like the original model, producing a total output of up to 344 horsepower.

The transformation of the Crown Crossover’s design was carried out by Toyota engineers themselves, which explains the high level of craftsmanship of this modified version. Toyota’s Vice President, Hiroki Nakajima, admitted that convertible cars are “extremely difficult” to make, but their “stylish” appearance and open-air feeling have made them popular among Americans and other countries.

Toyota’s Chief Designer, Simon Humphreys, emphasized the importance of convertibles looking “elegant and beautiful”, while the occupants are also a part of creating the overall aesthetic.

Initially, this Toyota Crown convertible was designed to be a parade car at the Sumo wrestling championship, but instead, the organizing committee chose the higher-end Century model. For those who desire to own this unique convertible, a Toyota representative stated that the company currently has no plans to develop a commercial version of the Crown convertible.
