Top 10 Chinese Cars Make it to the World’s Vehicles of 2024

This year, BYD Seal garnered attention as the only Chinese model to make the WCOTY top 10. Other nominated models include Ford Bronco, Hyundai Kona/Kona Electric, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia EV9, Mazda CX-90, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Prius, VW ID.7, and Volvo EX30.

To be nominated for the World Car of the Year, vehicles must fulfill several criteria. Firstly, the product must achieve at least 10,000 units sales per year and have a price within the mass-market range. The car must also be available in at least two major markets on two separate continents between January 1, 2022 and March 30, 2023.

Out of the top 10 WCOTY 2024 nominees, there are 4 electric cars, one hybrid car, and 4 internal combustion engine cars. The remaining model, Hyundai Kona, is unique as it has both a pure electric version and a gasoline version.

In addition to the World Car of the Year award, the organizers have also announced the shortlist for the Car Design of the Year award. The nominated models include Ferrari Purosangue, Ford Bronco, Toyota Prius, Volvo EX30, and Zeekr X. The presence of both Purosangue and Prius attracts attention as these two models have several design similarities.

In the Electric Car of the Year category, the hopeful nominees for the award include BMW i5, Kia EV9, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, VW ID.7, and Volvo EX30. Meanwhile, the Luxury Car of the Year award will be contested among the BMW 5-Series/i5, Lexus LM, Mercedes CLE, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Mercedes EQE SUV.

For the Sports Car of the Year category, Ferrari Purosangue will compete with BMW M2, BMW XM, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and Porsche Cayman Turbo E-Hybrid. In the Urban Car of the Year category, the final contenders include Abarth 500e, BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX, Suzuki Fronx, and Volvo EX30.

The WCOTY 2024 awards ceremony will be held on March 27, 2024, as part of the New York International Auto Show (USA).
