This is not a small recall as it affects up to 43,752 vehicles, all of which need to be brought to the dealership for repair.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall notice, when operating the 2024 Mazda CX-90, the driver may experience sudden steering wheel response. The root cause of this issue could be the worn gear responsible for power steering assistance.

Mazda stated that they received the first report of a potential steering system issue in November 2022, and in early 2023, the company discovered that the issue was caused by grease being pushed out from the gear. The Japanese automaker quickly took action to address the problem by modifying the wheel gear, but after a few months, a similar issue recurred. Then the second solution was implemented, which is reducing the force of the spring that acts on the screw gear to prevent excessive grease from being pushed out.

The problem related to the steering system of the 2024 Mazda CX-90 has prompted the Japanese automaker to issue a recall order for this SUV model in the US. This recall affects 43,752 vehicles manufactured between December 27, 2022, and December 11, 2023, and all of them need to be taken to the dealership for repairs.

Owners will be notified of this issue before March 18, 2024, and will be required to bring their vehicles to the dealership. Dealers will resolve the problem by replacing the spring attached to the screw gear and applying grease to the wheel gear free of charge.

This is not the first time the CX-90 has been recalled. In November of last year, Mazda issued two recalls for this model, the first one affecting over 4,000 plug-in hybrid variants that could experience power loss. The second one was related to the mild hybrid version of the CX-90 and involved issues with the front, side, and rearview cameras.
