“The highly anticipated debut”, “bold move”, “a significant milestone in global expansion strategy” – that’s what the Indonesian media said about VinFast’s presence at the 2024 International Auto Show in Indonesia and the company’s plan to enter the archipelago market.
“This move highlights VinFast’s commitment to contribute to Indonesia’s potential electric vehicle market and promote partnership for a sustainable transportation future in the region”, Indonesia’s DapurPacu magazine stated.
Tribun Otomotif also noted that VinFast’s commitment was clearly demonstrated in its first introduction of reverse steering electric car models to the international market. During IIMS 2024, the Vietnamese automaker will showcase a range of electric vehicles in various segments to meet the transportation needs and financial abilities of different customer groups, bringing green mobility closer to everyone.
VinFast’s models attracted the attention of a large number of visitors at the IIMS 2024 exhibition.
“Indonesia lags behind Vietnam in the electric vehicle revolution”
Media Indonesia quoted Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, an automotive expert at the Bandung Institute of Technology, who stated that the popularity of electric vehicles in Vietnam is superior to that in Indonesia thanks to Vietnam’s government policies and VinFast’s pioneering role in the electric vehicle industry.
In contrast, the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia is still in its infancy, with limited infrastructure and charging stations and government incentives that are not yet fully optimized. Yannes said, “Vietnam can achieve this thanks to the active involvement of the Vietnamese government and VinFast in the electric vehicle industry.”
VinFast’s investment is driving the dream of electrifying the transportation system in the most populous country in Southeast Asia.
Not only has VinFast made its mark in Vietnam, but it has also ventured into the global market. “VinFast’s presence continues to expand worldwide over the past two years, from the United States and Canada to Europe, with a significant turning point being its successful IPO last year,” Indonesian newspaper Otomotif1 stated.
“By January this year, the Vietnamese automaker announced a large investment in Indonesia, including $200 million to build an electric vehicle manufacturing plant, with the determination to expand its market share in Southeast Asia and enter Indonesia’s potential electric vehicle market,” the newspaper added.
Abundant natural resources, the government’s commitment to promoting the electric vehicle industry, a population of over 250 million people, and a booming domestic market are Indonesia’s advantages in the global electric vehicle revolution. According to ASEN Briefing data, Indonesia is the world’s leading nickel exporter, accounting for 22% of global reserves.
The international media believes that Jakarta is eager to attract companies like VinFast in the hope of utilizing the abundant natural resources to become a global electric vehicle supply hub. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese automaker is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for green transportation, contributing to the electrification of the transportation system in the most populous country in Southeast Asia.
VinFast: Shaping the Future of Southeast Asian Transportation
“VinFast’s electrification vision is rooted in a state-of-the-art automobile manufacturing complex located in Hai Phong, Vietnam, with up to 90% automation,” Otomotif1 wrote. When VinFast’s electric vehicle ecosystem extends beyond national borders, the production complex in Hai Phong will serve as a model for the company’s supply chain expansion plans. VinFast’s plant in Indonesia is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles.
According to Indonesian media, VinFast is leading the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia and the region.
Thus, Indonesia, not only being a key market, will also become an important link in VinFast’s global electric vehicle supply chain. “VinFast’s entry into the Indonesian market will contribute to increasing the supply of electric vehicles in this country as the demand for eco-friendly transportation increases,” commented Motor Mouth.
However, promoting the adoption rate of electric vehicles in Indonesia is just a part of the picture. The local media recognizes that the Vietnamese automaker is contributing to sustainable transportation with a commitment to creating an eco-friendly supply chain at all stages of production.
According to Motor Mouth, with the establishment of environmentally friendly production facilities, VinFast is leading the automotive industry towards sustainability and innovation. “Investing in Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry not only supports the local economy by creating job opportunities, but also promotes the electric vehicle revolution and contributes to a greener and cleaner future,” the magazine affirmed.
“By venturing into the young yet promising electric vehicle industry in Indonesia, VinFast is striving to enhance its position in shaping the future of Southeast Asian transportation and more,” Motor Mouth concluded.
