Marketed as a replacement for the discontinued CX-8 model in Japan, the Mazda CX-80 is part of Mazda’s new lineup of SUVs for the Japanese and European markets. Meanwhile, in the North American market, Mazda has its own set of SUVs with the CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90.

The CX-80 features a similar overall design to Mazda’s recently announced SUV lineup, such as the CX-60 and CX-70.

Looking at the sides of the vehicle, it’s clear that the CX-80 has a longer wheelbase, suggesting that it will likely retain the three-row, seven-seat design of its predecessor model.

Noteworthy changes will focus on the hood. As the CX-80 belongs to the larger SUV category, the vehicle will be offered with three drivetrain options (depending on the market): a 6-cylinder internal combustion engine with rear-wheel drive (or all-wheel drive), a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and a 48 mild-hybrid (MHEV).

The powertrain system will include gasoline (SkyActiv-X) and diesel (SkyActiv-D) options. Currently, specific power output figures for the engine options on the Mazda CX-80 have not been disclosed.
