Dolphin is a small hatchback car that has been very successful for BYD. In fact, it was a cash cow for the Chinese car manufacturer and paved the way for the production of electric cars in Vietnam. But it didn’t stop there, the BYD Dolphin has also been a successful export model for China.

Continuing its success, the BYD Dolphin 2024 was officially launched on February 23, 2024, with the Honor Edition. And let’s find out and quickly review the BYD Dolphin 2024: Promising innovations, surprisingly low prices to defeat Wuling Bingo.

BYD Dolphin Honor Edition launches at the same price

The BYD Dolphin Honor Edition has been officially released, this time with a total of 4 configurations introduced with 3 main operating ranges of 302 km, 401 km, and 420 km (according to China’s CLTC test conditions) for consumers to choose from.

The price range of the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition 2024 will be from 99,800 Chinese yuan to 129,800 Chinese yuan, equivalent to 326 million VND to 424 million VND.

So, the new car has a reduced price, and the quick review is that it still keeps the design of the 2023 model but mainly focuses on the upgraded power and improved operating range.

New features:

The BYD Dolphin is positioned as a pure electric small car, and the 2024 model doesn’t have many changes in terms of appearance, still keeping the design of the 2023 model. The front adopts the familiar “sea aesthetic” design concept, creating a round and vibrant visual effect.

From the side view, you can see that the new car uses a new low air dam, which is one of the biggest visual changes between the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition and the 2023 model. In addition, the BYD Dolphin 2024 will also offer a rear privacy glass and a new Atlantis gray body color, as well as a deep red heat wave color.

The rear end of the car remains unchanged, with standout translucent taillights, and the shape surrounding the rear end is similar to the front end of the car.

The dimensions of the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition include a length, width, and height of 4125 (4150)/1770/1570 mm, and a wheelbase length of 2700mm. The BYD Dolphin 2024 will offer 16-inch and 17-inch wheels depending on the configuration.

Interior of the car

In terms of interior, the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition mainly upgrades details such as adding Type-C charging ports for the front seats and upgrading the 50-watt wireless charging. In addition, the front seats will be equipped with ventilation function to improve overall comfort.

The central control panel of the BYD Dolphin 2024 still features a symmetrical design, the instrument panel uses a 5-inch full LCD form, the new three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, and the 12.8-inch hanging central control cluster look very smart.

Below the central control screen are roller buttons and push buttons, and even a gear-shifting mechanism. This design takes up less space compared to traditional gear levers and makes blind operation more convenient for users.

In addition, the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition also has a relatively rich storage space, with a hollow front center armrest that integrates a hidden traditional storage compartment underneath, providing convenient storage space for personal belongings.

It’s worth mentioning that the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition will have seats with integrated and fashionable designs, providing the best experience for users.

Powertrain and competitors

In terms of power, the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition will still be equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 70kW, equivalent to 94 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 180 Nm.

While the high-performance Knight version’s powertrain has a maximum power of 130 kW, about 174 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 290 Nm.

In terms of battery life, depending on the specific model, the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition will be equipped with batteries with capacities of 32,256 kWh and 44,928 kWh, with CLTC operating ranges of 302 km, 401 km, and 420 km. In addition, the new car also features an upgraded independent 4-link suspension system.

Competing rivals

In the new energy vehicle market in China with a price of 100,000 Chinese yuan, the Dolphin’s debut this time can be said to be a powerful player. With the launch of new models, prices have also been further reduced, forcing them to compete for market share against Wuling Bingo, Haomao, and other products.

In addition, the market for pure electric cars, where the Dolphin is located, may also see a shift of many small traditional fuel vehicles, meaning that models like Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris L Zhixuan, etc., may become important competitors to the Dolphin.

The BYD Dolphin is a comprehensive and powerful competitive product, with an outstanding sales record of 367,419 units in 2023, ranking first in the small car market. The new model introduced this time has no changes in appearance but features improved power and a further reduced price.

In this “2024 price war” launched by BYD, the Dolphin Honor Edition will become an irresistible car.
