The Ford Fiesta is a B-segment hatchback that appeared in Vietnam in 2011. The upgraded version of Fiesta debuted in 2014 and quickly received a positive response from users.

At that time, the Fiesta scored points thanks to its modern exterior, convenient interior, and turbocharged EcoBoost engine, making it convenient for urban use. We had the opportunity to chat with Mr. Cuong, a Fiesta user who drives it daily.

Could you introduce yourself and your Ford Fiesta?

Hello everyone, my name is Cuong and I’m currently running a restaurant. The Ford Fiesta I’m using is not a new car, but I bought it second hand. It is a 2017 model that I bought for over 330 million VND (approximately 14,300 USD). The previous owner didn’t drive it much (only about 30,000 km). This is also the first Ford car I have ever driven.

I started getting familiar with cars in 2010 and have owned quite a few cars since then, around 6-7 cars, most of them small cars because my main transportation needs are in the city. Before the Fiesta, I had a 2017 Suzuki Vitara (which was the largest car among the ones I owned). Since my wife didn’t like big cars and found them difficult to handle, I decided to switch to the Fiesta.

What do you like and dislike about the Ford Fiesta?

One advantage is its sturdy chassis, which makes it enjoyable to drive at high speeds. When I sit behind the wheel of this car, I feel really comfortable because the seats are snug, which helps me concentrate better while driving. However, this can be a disadvantage for those who prefer a more relaxed driving experience like in Japanese cars. I am 1.72m tall and I find the driver’s seat quite tight.

Next is the limited space, which is quite cramped when traveling with a big family like mine.

When using the Fiesta, I pay attention to its gearbox. When I shift to D, there is a jerking sensation. I went to an external car workshop to have it checked and they did some software adjustments, which solved the problem. This issue only appears in other Fiestas when they have traveled over 100,000 km.

Another issue is the coolant boiling. According to some previous users, cleaning the coolant reservoir will solve the problem. Personally, I found that it needs manual cleaning to completely resolve this issue.

Compared to the previous Suzuki Vitara, does the Ford Fiesta have more “issues”?

When I drove Suzuki Vitara or small cars from Japan or Korea before, I never had to deal with software adjustments or coolant cleaning. Those cars are very durable and fuel-efficient. Due to the electronic systems and sensors in the Fiesta, users need to pay a little more attention. Personally, I still prefer Japanese cars because I don’t have to worry about these small things.

Your Fiesta is now 7 years old, although it has low mileage, it is considered an older model. Is it difficult to find spare parts, especially since it has stopped production?

Since the previous owner didn’t drive it much, I haven’t had to replace anything significant. I mainly change the engine oil every 6 months. The price of spare parts in the official dealership is quite high, but if you join Fiesta enthusiast clubs or groups, it’s not as expensive as people think.

Many people think that Ford spare parts are expensive, but the reality is that Suzuki or Toyota spare parts are also expensive when bought from official dealerships. The only difference is that Ford spare parts are not widely manufactured in third countries.
