According to Nikkei Asia, Daihatsu is considering recalling 2 mini car models due to a door defect. The estimated number of affected models in this recall is around 320,000 in the Japanese market.

The announcement by Daihatsu comes just one day after the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism directed the company to consider recalling Daihatsu Cast and Toyota Pixis Joy models. The Japanese regulatory body’s statement comes after finding that Daihatsu had manipulated safety test data on most of the models it produced.

Meanwhile, according to Autoindustriya, the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines is also preparing to issue a recall order related to nearly 11,000 Avanza, Raize, and Veloz vehicles to address a braking system issue. This recall is unrelated to Daihatsu’s recent safety test data manipulation scandal.

The content posted by the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines on social media states that an assembly line error caused damage to the brake cylinder slide pin. When water enters the slide pin boot for an extended period, rusting can occur, leading to premature brake pad wear.

The total number of affected vehicles in this recall is 10,975, according to the content of the post by the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines. This includes 3,119 Toyota Avanza vehicles manufactured between September 12 and December 11, 2022, 4,345 Toyota Raize vehicles manufactured between September 12 and December 7, 2022, and 3,511 Toyota Veloz vehicles manufactured between September 12 and December 13, 2022.

It should be noted that both the Avanza, Veloz, and Raize models are using the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform.

According to Autoindustriya, Toyota Motor Philippines will replace the front disc brake cylinder slide pin assembly for the affected vehicles. If necessary, Toyota Motor Philippines will also replace the brake booster for the recalled vehicles. All repairs and replacements will be provided free of charge.

According to a source from Autoindustriya, the recall information has been sent to affected owners through the myToyota app. Meanwhile, the official website of the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines has not yet published this announcement.

It is highly likely that the Vietnamese market will also have a similar recall to the one in the Philippines related to the brake system issue.

Daihatsu is a subsidiary of the Toyota group, which suspended production at its plants in Japan last month due to a safety test data manipulation scandal. Daihatsu also had to halt shipments immediately after the investigation findings were announced, but it quickly resumed operations in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Prior to this, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism also announced that it will recall the necessary certifications for Daihatsu to mass-produce three models, including Daihatsu Gran Max, Toyota Town Ace, and Mazda Bongo. According to Reuters, the ministry’s inspection process has also uncovered 14 other cases of non-compliance by Daihatsu, in addition to the previously announced violations.

In Vietnam, only the Toyota Avanza Premio MT model is affected by the Daihatsu incident. Toyota Vietnam has also issued a temporary halt to the sale of Avanza Premio MT until further notice.
