The highly anticipated details of the Toyota LandCruiser FJ ‘mini’ have been leaked by the renowned Japanese magazine Best Car, known for getting early access to information about Toyota’s future models.
With a rendered image of the compact 4×4 vehicle appearing on the magazine’s cover, Best Car states that the iconic Toyota FJ badge will make a comeback on the new small SUV.
Best Car’s report notes that the LandCruiser FJ is expected to be officially unveiled in December 2024. The vehicle will be equipped with a 2.7-liter inline-4 gasoline engine, the same type of engine with 122kW/245Nm used in the recently launched Toyota Hilux Champ in Australia.
This indicates that the LandCruiser FJ will utilize Toyota’s ladder-frame iMV platform similar to the Hilux Champ, but with a 4-wheel drive system instead of the rear-wheel drive found in the Hilux.
With a wheelbase length ranging from 2,745mm to 2,750mm, the LandCruiser FJ will be longer than the new 5-door Suzuki Jimny XL with a 2,590mm wheelbase.
Prior to this, detailed information about the ‘LandCruiser Mini’ model was reported by several media outlets in Japan. This vehicle is expected to be the production version of the Compact Cruiser EV concept unveiled in 2021.
