Recently, an unfortunate accident occurred with the Mercedes-AMG GT R facelift.
According to some witnesses at the scene, the car lost control and plunged into a canal. Immediately after receiving the report, the authorities arrived at the scene to salvage the car.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident but the car may suffer considerable damage from being submerged in water. The owner may have to spend a substantial amount of money to repair it.
The unlucky Mercedes-AMG GT R involved in the accident has a matte blue exterior called Designo Brilliant Blue Magno. This is the facelift version of the Mercedes-AMG GT R launched in November 2018.
The most striking feature of the AMG GT R is its vertically slatted Panamericana radiator grille inspired by the legendary 300 SL in the race of the same name in Mexico. The front bumper, the front and side air intakes are widened to improve cooling and aerodynamics as well as aesthetics. The rear is highlighted by a large fixed wing, a diffuser panel, and a central exhaust cluster.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is equipped with black multi-spoke alloy wheels, with yellow ceramic brake calipers reflecting the style of the AMG GT3 racing car.
Providing power for the Mercedes-AMG GT R is a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine with a unique “hot inside V” turbo arrangement, producing 577 horsepower and a peak torque of 700 Nm in the engine speed range of 2100 – 5500 rpm. This M178 engine also helps lower the car’s center of gravity through the use of a dry sump and an intelligent oil pump system.
The engine is combined with the AMG 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive, allowing the Mercedes-AMG GT R to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 318 km/h.
Notably, AMG has designed an active carbon fiber splitter beneath the front bumper. When the car is in Race mode, the splitter tilts down by an additional 40 mm at speeds above 80 km/h, providing an extra 40 kg of downforce when the car reaches a speed of 250 km/h.
In addition to the powerful engine, the car is equipped with advanced safety technologies such as AMG Drive Control suspension, AMG sports electric power steering, limited-slip differential for the rear axle, AMG Traction Control 9-stage system, parking assist sensors, Pre-Safe safety system, ABS brakes, emergency brake assist, ASR traction control, and hill-start assist.
In Vietnam, the AMG GT R was previously distributed by authorized dealers with prices starting from 11.6 billion VND.
