According to Motor1, Kia seems to be ready to join the booming pickup truck segment in the global auto market. Images taken at an underground parking lot in South Korea show that Kia’s pickup truck has appeared, however, the exterior details are still hidden under camouflage.

Based on the exterior design, it can be seen that Kia’s pickup truck shares similarities with the Kia Telluride with vertically placed headlights on both sides and a large grille. However, Motor1 believes that these two models will be difficult to share the same platform, as Kia’s pickup truck has a body-on-frame structure, while the Kia Telluride has a unibody structure.

The pickup truck, rumored to be named Kia Tasman, will use 17-inch wheels with Kumho Crugen tires. The size of the Kia Tasman is considered to be quite similar to the Ford Ranger. The interior of the vehicle is still quite basic, leading Motor1 to believe that this is just a prototype.

At the gear lever position of the pickup truck, there is a differential lock switch with 2H, 4H, and 4L modes. According to Car Sales magazine in Australia, Kia’s pickup truck will be equipped with a 2.2L 4-cylinder diesel engine, combined with automatic or manual transmission.

In addition to the dual-cabin option, similar to many pickup truck models in the Vietnamese market, Kia Tasman is expected to have additional single-cabin or even Chassis Cab configurations for commercial purposes. It is worth noting that an electric version of the Kia Tasman pickup truck is a possibility in the future.

Kia’s pickup truck is produced in South Korea and is expected to be officially announced in March. The final design of the Kia Tasman will be revealed in the fourth quarter before its official launch in the market next year.

According to Motor1, a large electric pickup truck under the Kia brand exclusively for the North American market is also rumored to appear around 2030.

Prior to that, Hyundai confirmed that the Korean automaker is developing an electric pickup truck based on the second generation of the E-GMP platform. It is known that the E-GMP platform is being used by Hyundai for electric vehicle products such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

The first pure electric pickup truck from Hyundai Group is said to have a unibody structure similar to the Hyundai Santa Cruz, a pickup truck model based on the Hyundai Tucson.
