The new C-HR 2.0L plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model has been introduced alongside the 1.8L hybrid variant with 140 PS and the 2.0L hybrid variant with 197 PS, which were first launched in selected markets last year.
The C-HR PHEV utilizes Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid technology, which has received significant improvements compared to the fourth-generation powertrain, including redesigned main components for reduced size and weight. The improvements include a new transaxle and power control unit (PCU), along with a stronger high-voltage battery, to improve the balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
For the C-HR PHEV, it is equipped with a 2.0L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder engine producing 152 PS, assisted by a powerful electric motor with 163 PS, for a maximum combined power of 223 PS.
Equipped with a 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery, the C-HR PHEV has an electric-only range of up to 65 km. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.
Notably, the PHEV powertrain of the C-HR is identical to the Toyota Prius PHEV also sold in the European market. The C-HR PHEV has also been fine-tuned to suit the driving styles in the UK and Europe. For example, the throttle response has been adjusted to provide easy control and quick response.
The C-HR PHEV will be offered in various variants, including the sporty GR-Sport variant. The vehicle is expected to be delivered to customers in the UK from July 2024.
