Kia Tasman Pickup Truck Teased Ahead of Release, Competing with Ford Ranger

Kia Australia has finally confirmed the upcoming launch of a highly anticipated all-new pickup truck and has released a promotional video for the new model.

The promotional video features the participation of 20 of Australia’s most famous sports stars, including AFL star Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin, former soccer player John Aloisi, and former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Each sports legend has a short line in the clip as they debate what the name of the pickup truck should be.

Although Kia has not yet announced the name of the pickup truck, many people speculate that it will be called the Kia Tasman. Kia registered the name for this model last year.

The South Korean automaker has been working on the development of the new pickup truck since at least the beginning of 2019 and is expected to release it to the market next year. When launched, Kia’s pickup truck will be positioned as a competitor to the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.

Currently, information about the powertrain has not been disclosed, but Kia Australia previously stated that there will be a diesel engine option, most likely the company’s existing 2.2-liter CRDi turbocharged 4-cylinder engine used in some Hyundai and Kia models.

In fact, the Tasman is not the only pickup truck model being developed by Kia. The brand is also researching a second pickup truck model that will be sold in the US market and offered as an all-electric vehicle based on the existing E-GMP platform.
