The global F1 fans recently became more excited with the news that world-renowned racer Lewis Hamilton will switch from the Mercedes AMG Petronas team to the Scuderia Ferrari team at the beginning of the 2025 season.

This information has been confirmed by several sources, including the Scuderia Ferrari team’s X Twitter page. This comes as a surprise as Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes AMG Petronas was set to end after 2025.

Lewis Hamilton will race alongside Scuderia Ferrari’s home-grown talent Charles Leclerc, replacing the position of Spanish racer Carlos Sainz Jr. Despite being favored, Charles Leclerc only managed to score 206 points and finished 5th, while Carlos Sainz Jr. scored 6 points and finished 7th in the 2023 season. The fate of the Spanish racer after the 2024 season remains uncertain.

As for Lewis Hamilton, he said, “I’ve had an amazing 11 years with this team (Mercedes) and I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved together. Mercedes has been a part of my life since I was 13 years old. This is where I grew up, so the decision to leave the team is one of the hardest decisions I have to make. However, this is the right time for me to move on and I am very excited for the new challenges.”

Lewis Hamilton officially started his career in the prestigious Formula 1 racing championship in 2007 with the McLaren team. In 2008, the British racer won his first World Championship. His journey with the Mercedes team began in 2013 and was expected to end with the 2024 season. During this time, he won an additional 6 championships in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

However, with the changes in the F1 race car structure, Lewis Hamilton has struggled to adapt to the car and has described the Mercedes W13 as “undrivable.” He ended the 2022 season with 9 podium finishes but no race wins, a first in his career. Lewis Hamilton finished 6th, trailing his teammate George Russell by 35 points.

The 2023 season was not any better for the racer. Despite finishing 3rd with 234 points, Lewis Hamilton has yet to taste victory. In August 2023, he extended his contract with Mercedes for an additional 2 years, until the end of the 2025 season.

Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Scuderia Ferrari team will bring about a major change in the F1 race landscape. Currently, Charles Leclerc has been chosen as the main racer for Scuderia Ferrari. He has also recently extended his contract with Scuderia Ferrari until at least the end of 2025.

Despite winning 5 race stages and standing on the podium 30 times, the 26-year-old racer has yet to convince the team management, who have been eager for an individual F1 championship since 2007 and a constructor’s championship since 2008.

Therefore, the strategies of Scuderia Ferrari, with both racers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, will greatly impact the overall results of the 2025 season. Especially since both racers have strong personalities.

In addition, Scuderia Ferrari will also face a formidable challenge from Dutch racer Max Verstappen of the Red Bull Racing team, who ended Lewis Hamilton’s championship streak with 3 consecutive championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
