Pickup truck sales in February 2024 (in units)

Ford Ranger: 880 units

February 2024 continued to witness the polarization in the pickup truck segment, between the Ford Ranger and the rest. Specifically, in the past month, Ford sold a total of 880 Ranger units in Vietnam, a 23% decrease compared to the previous month. With this result, the Ford Ranger not only ranked first in the pickup truck segment but also dominated the entire market. Year-to-date, Ford Ranger has achieved sales of 2,023 units.

The most popular pickup truck in Vietnam has been the Ford Ranger for a long time. This is not surprising because this model has a rugged, modern, and attractive exterior. In addition, it offers abundant convenience and safety features, as well as a variety of versions to choose from.

Currently, the Ford Ranger in Vietnam has 9 versions with prices ranging from 669 million to 1.299 billion dong. Recently, the model has been supplemented with a new version called Stormtrak, but the price has not been announced yet. Ford Ranger Stormtrak will be officially available in Vietnam in April 2024.

Ford Ranger Stormtrak

Under the hood of the Ford Ranger, there are two options of 2.0L diesel engines. The first is a single turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 167 horsepower and a peak torque of 405 Nm. This engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a twin-turbocharged engine, providing corresponding power of 207 horsepower and 500 Nm, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi Triton: 70 units

Similar to the previous months, the Mitsubishi Triton remained the second best-selling pickup truck in terms of sales. The total sales of this Japanese car model reached 70 units, a 53% decrease compared to January 2024.

Mitsubishi Triton

In March 2024, Mitsubishi is applying a promotion for the Triton, offering a 50% reduction in registration fee and 1-year comprehensive insurance. Thanks to this, customers can save from 32 – 45 million dong when completing the registration for their vehicles. The 4×2 AT MIVEC variant also comes with an additional backup camera worth 2.5 million dong.

Mitsubishi Triton impresses Vietnamese customers with its masculine and sturdy design, suitable equipment, and relatively competitive prices ranging from 650 – 905 million dong. Under the hood of this pickup truck is the MIVEC DI-D Hi-Power 2.4L diesel engine, producing a maximum power of 181 horsepower and a peak torque of 430 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive.

Isuzu D-Max: 11 units

The third best-selling pickup truck model in the past month was the Isuzu D-Max. Its sales reached 11 units, a 38.8% decrease.

Isuzu D-Max

Compared to the above two competitors, the Isuzu D-Max has a more affordable price, ranging from 665 – 880 million dong for 3 versions. The convenience and safety features of this pickup truck are also competitive in the segment. However, the Isuzu D-Max is not preferred due to its design.

The “heart” of the Isuzu D-Max is a 4-cylinder 1.9L diesel engine, generating a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive.

Mazda BT-50: 0 units

In February 2024, the Mazda brand did not sell any BT-50 units to Vietnamese customers. Year-to-date, this model has only achieved sales of 5 units.

Mazda BT-50

The Mazda BT-50 is currently the cheapest pickup truck in the segment, with prices ranging from 554 – 614 million dong for 2 versions. However, this model has relatively modest sales, partly due to its less masculine exterior design. In addition, the Mazda BT-50 uses the same engine as the Isuzu D-Max.

Toyota Hilux: 0 units

Similarly to the Mazda BT-50, the Toyota Hilux did not generate any sales in February 2024. Year-to-date, this model has a sales record of 0 units.

Toyota Hilux

However, the reason why the Toyota Hilux did not generate sales might be because the company is preparing to launch an upgraded version of this pickup truck. According to the company’s announcement in early March 2024, the new Hilux will be available for sale in Vietnam in May this year.

The Toyota Hilux 2024 will come in 3 versions: 2.4 4×4 MT, 2.4 4×2 AT, and 2.8 4×4 AT Adventure, with prices of 668 million, 706 million, and 999 million dong, respectively. Besides having more versions, this model will have a starting price reduction, which promises to improve its competitiveness.

Under the hood of the Toyota Hilux 2024 in Vietnam, there are two engine options. The first is a 2.4L 4-cylinder diesel engine, generating a maximum power of 144 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4 4×4 MT version comes with 4-wheel drive, while the 2.4 4×2 AT version is equipped with rear-wheel drive only.

The second engine is a 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged 2.8L engine, delivering a power of 201 horsepower and a torque of 500 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive.
