Decline in sales is a common trend in the Vietnamese car market in February 2024. The mid-size SUV segment is no exception. However, despite that, there are still some mid-size SUV models that have shown sales growth in the past month, notably the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Fortuner.

Ford Everest: 351 vehicles
In February 2024, Ford sold 351 Everest vehicles to Vietnamese customers, a decrease of 55.2%. However, this American model still leads the mid-size SUV segment in Vietnam. In addition, the Ford Everest is also among the top 10 best-selling cars in the market.
In March 2024, Ford introduced a new version of the Everest called Platinum. Positioned as the most expensive variant of this model, the Ford Everest Platinum does not have a confirmed price yet. The introduction of this new version might help strengthen the position of the Everest in the Vietnamese market.

The Ford Everest is currently available in 5 variants with prices ranging from 1,099 to 1,499 billion VND. With this price range, Vietnamese customers will receive a modern and attractive mid-size SUV with a spacious 7-seater interior, equipped with plenty of convenience and safety features. Additionally, two diesel engine options with a capacity of 2.0L are available.
The first option is a single-turbo diesel engine with a maximum power output of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 405 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a twin-turbo diesel engine, generating a maximum power output of 210 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is only available in the top-of-the-line variant.
Hyundai Santa Fe: 132 vehicles
February 2024 saw a slight growth in sales for the Hyundai Santa Fe, with a total of 132 vehicles sold. Compared to January 2024, this Korean model experienced a 1.5% increase in sales. As a result, the Hyundai Santa Fe has moved up to the second position in the segment, replacing the Mazda CX-8.

Like other Korean models, the Hyundai Santa Fe is popular in Vietnam thanks to its stylish design, full range of convenience and safety features, and reasonable prices ranging from 1,029 to 1,369 billion VND.
Furthermore, the Hyundai Santa Fe offers three engine options. The gasoline version uses a Smartstream Theta III 2.5L engine, with a maximum power output of 180 horsepower and a peak torque of 232 Nm, coupled with a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission. The diesel version is equipped with a Smartstream D2.2 engine, providing a maximum power output of 202 horsepower and a peak torque of 440 Nm, paired with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Mazda CX-8: 108 vehicles
The growth of the Hyundai Santa Fe has pushed the Mazda CX-8 down to the third position in the mid-size SUV segment. In February, this Japanese model sold 108 vehicles, a decrease of 37.2%.

In addition to its fashionable design and timeless appeal, the Mazda CX-8 has a strong advantage in terms of pricing, ranging from 949 million to 1.129 billion VND. It is currently one of the most affordable mid-size SUVs in its segment.
The Mazda CX-8 is only available with one engine option, which is the Skyactiv-G 2.5L gasoline engine, with a maximum power output of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 252 Nm. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the variant. Additionally, the Mazda CX-8 is equipped with G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) advanced acceleration control technology.
Toyota Fortuner: 86 vehicles
Alongside the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Toyota Fortuner is one of the rare models that has shown sales growth in the mid-size SUV segment in February 2024. Specifically, this model sold 86 vehicles, an increase of 36.5% compared to the previous month.

It seems that Toyota Vietnam’s new pricing policy for the Fortuner has finally paid off. Earlier in January 2024, this mid-size SUV received some upgrades, such as a 9-inch touchscreen display with wireless connectivity to smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the Toyota Fortuner’s lineup was reduced by 2 variants, leaving only 5 variants, and the prices were reduced from 63 to 120 million VND, now ranging from 1,055 to 1,35 billion VND.
The Toyota Fortuner in Vietnam is available with 3 engine options, including 2 diesel engines and 1 gasoline engine. The 2.4L 4-cylinder diesel engine delivers a maximum power output of 147 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The corresponding figures for the 2.8L 4-cylinder diesel engine are 201 horsepower and 500 Nm. Finally, the 2.7L 4-cylinder gasoline engine generates a maximum power output of 164 horsepower and a peak torque of 245 Nm. These engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, or 4WD, depending on the variant.
Kia Sorento: 34 vehicles
Following behind the Toyota Fortuner in terms of sales is the Kia Sorento, with a total of 34 vehicles sold. Compared to the beginning of the year, the sales of this model have decreased by 44.2%.

In the mid-size SUV segment, the Kia Sorento is currently the most expensive model, with prices ranging from 979 million to 1.569 billion VND. However, it is also the model with the most variants and engine options.
The first option is a 2.5 MPI Smartstream gasoline engine, with a maximum power output of 177 horsepower and a peak torque of 232 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel version is equipped with a Smartstream D2.2 engine, delivering a maximum power output of 198 horsepower and a peak torque of 440 Nm, paired with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Next are the hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, both using a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine, generating 178 horsepower/265 Nm, combined with an electric motor and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The power output of the electric motor in the hybrid variants is 60 horsepower and 264 Nm. The corresponding figures for the electric motor in the plug-in hybrid variants are 90 horsepower and 304 Nm.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: 13 vehicles
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the model with the highest sales decline in the mid-size SUV segment, reaching 90.4%. In February 2024, Mitsubishi only sold 13 Pajero Sport vehicles to Vietnamese customers. With this modest result, this Japanese model has entered the top 10 worst-selling cars in Vietnam.

In March 2024, Mitsubishi is offering a 50% reduction in registration fee for the Pajero Sport. This program may help boost the sales of this Mitsubishi model in March.
In Vietnam, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is available in 2 variants with prices ranging from 1,13 to 1,365 billion VND. This 7-seater SUV from Mitsubishi uses a 2.4L Mivec diesel engine, delivering a maximum power output of 178 horsepower and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The drivetrain is available in both 2WD and 4WD, with a rear differential lock.
Isuzu MU-X: 6 vehicles
The last model in the mid-size SUV segment in Vietnam in the past month is the Isuzu MU-X, with sales of only 6 vehicles, a decrease of 68.4%. Similar to its compatriot, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, this model also made it into the top 10 worst-selling cars in Vietnam in February 2024.

Isuzu MU-X often has low sales due to its less appealing exterior design. However, it offers highly competitive prices in its segment, ranging from 911 million to 1.25 billion VND.
In Vietnam, the Isuzu MU-X is equipped with a 1.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine, producing a maximum power output of 150 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm in the range of 1,800 – 2,600 rpm. In the highest variant, this engine is combined with a 4WD system and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The remaining variants are equipped with rear-wheel drive.
