With 350,000 units delivered to customers in 2023, the X3 is BMW’s best-selling model. Not resting on its laurels, the German automaker is preparing to launch the next generation of the BMW X3 with a raft of significant upgrades designed to further extend its competitive advantage over its rivals.

In the meantime, we can preview the appearance of the 2025 BMW X3 in prototype form. The prototypes for the next-generation BMW X3 include plug-in hybrid and M Performance variants.

Known internally as the “G45,” the 2025 BMW X3 hides a sleeker body underneath its black and white camouflage. The Bavarian automaker has reduced the drag coefficient from 0.29 to 0.27 to improve fuel efficiency.

Furthermore, the new X3 will be offered with an optional adaptive chassis that features electronically controlled shock absorbers. It will also come with a host of the latest driver assistance and safety technologies. BMW is confident that the new X3 will ace all Euro NCAP crash tests with flying colors.

Inside the cabin, we can expect the 2025 BMW X3 to receive a simplified dashboard with few physical controls. The user will be able to access most of the car’s functions through a touchscreen display similar to the one found in other BMW models on sale today.

With the new X1 growing significantly in size compared to its predecessor, with an overall length of 4,500 mm, it is likely that the new X3 will also be adjusted in size to maintain a safe distance between the two SUVs.

A new iX3 is also planned, but it will be noticeably different from the X3. Expected to launch next year, the electric iX3 will be based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform. In contrast, the combustion-powered variants are based on the CLAR platform. The all-electric version will feature a different design than its combustion-engined sibling, particularly in the cabin, where the iX3 will get a completely new dashboard with the tenth-generation iDrive.

We have already had a preview of the BMW iX3 through the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. This concept featured a large central screen and no display for the driver. Instead, there was a large head-up display. The all-electric version of the X3 will likely have a roomier interior thanks to its dedicated EV platform, which offers a longer wheelbase.

The new BMW X3 with gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains will be unveiled in the coming weeks and should go on sale before the end of the year.
