In March 2024, the majority of D-segment sedans in Vietnam experienced growth in sales, with the exception of the Honda Accord. The Toyota Camry continues to lead the segment, as it has for many months.

D-segment sedan sales in March 2024 (unit: vehicles)
Toyota Camry: 131 Units
It is no surprise that the Toyota Camry continues to lead the D-segment sedan market in terms of sales as of March 2024. Compared to the previous month, sales of the Japanese model have increased by 61.7%.
Toyota Camry
Besides that, the Toyota Camry is also the only model in the segment with sales over 100 units. In some ways, this indicates that the appeal of the D-segment sedan market has begun to diminish, making way for the rise of MPVs, SUVs, and pickup trucks.
In Vietnam, the Toyota Camry is currently distributed with 4 variants and a price range of VND 1,105 to 1,495 billion. While not the cheapest option, the model remains popular due to its attractive and elegant design, spacious and comfortable interior, and strong brand image.
There are 3 engine options present under the Toyota Camry’s hood. The first is a 2.0L gasoline engine with a maximum power of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 206 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox. Next is a 2.5L gasoline engine, delivering a maximum power of 207 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm, complemented by an 8-speed automatic transmission. Finally, there is the hybrid powertrain, comprising a gasoline engine, electric motor, and CVT gearbox, producing a combined output of 264 horsepower.
The safety features of the model are also quite comprehensive, including lane keeping assist, emergency automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, intelligent headlights, 8 sensors, and a 360-degree camera.
Mazda6: 38 Units
In March 2024, Mazda sold 38 units of its Mazda6 model to Vietnamese customers, which translates to a 111.1% increase in growth rate. This model has the highest growth rate in sales within the segment. Although it falls short of the Toyota Camry by a considerable margin, the Mazda6 still ranks second in sales in the D-segment sedan market.
Mazda6
Priced from 779 to 914 million VND, the Mazda6 currently stands as the most affordable D-segment sedan in the market. Furthermore, this Japanese model boasts a fairly refined exterior design, with amenities and safety features comparable to its rivals.
Some of the notable safety features of the Mazda6 in Vietnam include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, radar-integrated cruise control, collision warning, intelligent front/rear braking assist, lane keeping assist, driver attention alert, and intelligent brake assist (SBS).
The Mazda6 in Vietnam is available with 2 gasoline engine options: SkyActiv-G 2.0 and SkyActiv-G 2.5, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0L engine produces a maximum power of 154 horsepower and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The corresponding figures for the 2.5L engine are 188 horsepower and 252 Nm.
Kia K5: 32 Units
Similar to the 2 aforementioned models, the Kia K5 also saw an increase in sales in March 2024, with a rate of 100%. However, with a modest sales volume of only 32 units, the Kia K5 once again makes it into the list of 10 worst-selling cars in the market for the month of March.
Kia K5
The Kia K5’s advantages lie in its reasonable price range of 859 to 999 million VND, its youthful and stylish design with a sporty flair, and its diverse array of amenities and safety features. The model is equipped with LED lights, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a head-up display (HUD), a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.
In Vietnam, the Kia K5 is offered with 2 engine options. The first is the 2.0L Nu MPI engine, delivering a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 192 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is the 2.5L Theta-III GDi engine, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, producing a maximum power of 191 horsepower and a maximum torque of 246 Nm. The car utilizes a front-wheel drive system.
Honda Accord: 11 Units
The Honda Accord’s sales in March 2024 amounted to only 11 units, indicating an 8.3% decrease compared to the previous month. This model is the only one in the D-segment sedan market to experience a decline in sales during the past month. With these results, the Honda Accord not only sits at the bottom of the segment but also makes it into the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market.
Honda Accord
In an attempt to boost sales for the Accord, Honda is implementing a significant discount program for the model in April 2024. Accordingly, customers purchasing the Honda Accord will receive a cash incentive of 220 million VND. This promotional campaign is expected to stimulate Accord sales in April.
The Honda Accord’s poor sales performance in Vietnam can be attributed to its high price of 1.319 billion VND and the availability of only 1 variant. On the other hand, the car offers a spacious interior and a driving experience that has been highly praised in the segment.

Honda Accord: 40 Years of Automotive Excellence
Looking at the Vietnamese car market right now and humorously comparing it, we will see Camry as a well-behaved young girl, not outstanding in every aspect but easily becoming the choice of the “other half”. Teana, on the other hand, is like a dignified and tranquil woman, full of courage. Meanwhile, Mazda6 is like a hot girl, quickly attracting and captivating anyone’s gaze from the first encounter. As for Accord – with the elegance and experiences of a U30 lady, even though she is always praised by everyone, she hides something “difficult to deal with” in the minds of the majority.
