Chery Omoda 7: A Sleek SUV-Coupe Crossover
As a recently established sub-brand of Chery, Omoda is unveiling its newest model, the Omoda 7, complementing its inaugural vehicle, the Omoda 5, released a year prior.
Scheduled to make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show commencing on April 28, 2024, the manufacturer has released teaser images of the Chery Omoda 7. Despite their obscured nature, the sleek exterior design of the Chery Omoda 7 is evident, embodying an SUV-coupe aesthetic. This is particularly noticeable in the sloping roofline towards the rear.
Furthermore, the Chery Omoda 7 features a clamshell-style hood and an upturned beltline at the C-pillar. The pillars and roof are finished in black, creating a stylish two-tone exterior for this Chinese vehicle.
The Chery Omoda 7 boasts sharp-looking headlamps, taillights extending into the vehicle’s sides, and door handles reminiscent of the BMW iX1. The front grille of the car incorporates a hexagonal mesh pattern, while the two corners of the front bumper feature unique embellishments.
Bearing the designation Chery Omoda 7, this model is anticipated to surpass the Omoda 5 in size. Given the Omoda 5’s positioning in the B-segment, it is likely that the Chery Omoda 7 will be a C-segment SUV.
The newcomer from Chery is expected to be equipped with a multi-link rear suspension, a 1.6L four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering a maximum power output of 197 horsepower and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It is probable that the Chery Omoda 7 will be offered in international markets as a replacement for the Tiggo 7 Pro. Its arrival in Vietnam is also a possibility in the near future.
During 2024, two new sub-brands of Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo, are poised to debut in Vietnam’s automotive market. These brands are slated to introduce three models, the Omoda C5, Omoda E5, and Jaecoo J7.
In early April 2024, Omoda & Jaecoo signed a joint venture agreement for the establishment of an automobile manufacturing facility with the Geleximco Group. The Omoda & Jaecoo plant will be located in Thai Binh province and specialize in producing new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Its construction will be divided into three stages, with an estimated total investment of over 800 million USD. Groundbreaking for the plant is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024, and phase one completion is expected in the first quarter of 2026. Prior to the plant’s commencement of operations, the Omoda & Jaecoo brands will import vehicles into Vietnam from Indonesia for distribution. The Omoda C5 and E5 are anticipated to launch in Vietnam during the third quarter of 2024. The fourth quarter of 2024 will witness the introduction of the Jaecoo 7 and 7 PHEV to domestic customers.
