Just days after revealing heavily disguised prototype images, images and specifications of the Denza Z9 GT electric vehicle have surfaced on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website. This comes ahead of its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25.

The Denza brand, which is 90 per cent owned by BYD and 10 per cent by Mercedes-Benz, shifted 10,279 vehicles during the first quarter of 2024 and these latest Z9 GT specifications are likely to boost Denza’s fortunes further. According to the MIIT filing, the car will have a trio of electric motors, with a front-mounted unit producing 308 horsepower (230 kilowatts) and a pair of rear motors, each producing 322 hp (240 kW). In total, the car will have a colossal 952 hp (710 kW).

The firm hasn’t released any acceleration figures, but it says the car will have a 240 km/h (149 mph) top speed. Like many EVs, the Z9 GT is seriously heavy, with a kerb weight of 2875 kg (6338 lbs), making it more portly than a Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and a Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Details about the car’s battery pack haven’t been revealed, but it will be a large-capacity unit and will use BYD’s Blade design.

Measuring 5180 mm long, 1990 mm wide and 1500 mm tall, and with a 3125 mm wheelbase, the Denza Z9 GT is around 130 mm longer and 53 mm wider than the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. It’s also considerably larger than its closest rival, the Taycan Sport Turismo, which measures 4963 mm long and has a 2900 mm wheelbase.

Visually, the Z9 GT looks suitably dramatic. At the front, there are angular headlights and an aggressive bumper with large air intakes and sculpted creases on the bonnet. The bold styling continues down the sides of the car, with aerodynamically-optimised wheels, flush door handles and muscular surfacing.

At the rear, there are eye-catching taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler and a deployable secondary spoiler that rises from the bootlid. BYD says it plans to offer the Z9 GT globally, with a European launch expected next year.
