The first car model from smartphone giant Xiaomi is creating a buzz not only in the Chinese market but also globally. The Xiaomi SU7 impresses with striking design, cutting-edge technology and powerful performance that rivals the best from Tesla and Porsche, all at a fraction of the cost.
Measuring 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, the SU7 comes in three variants. Starting the lineup is the Standard version priced at $29,900 USD, featuring a RWD setup as standard. It rides on a 400V platform, packs a 73.6 kWh battery, and is propelled by a 295 horsepower electric motor with 400 Nm of torque. This offers a CLTC-rated driving range of 700 km and can add up to 350 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.
The next higher trim is the SU7 Pro, which follows a similar setup with a 400V architecture but gets a larger 94.3 kWh battery pack. It retains the same 295 horsepower RWD setup as the standard model. Offering a driving range of 830 km on the CLTC cycle, it retails at $34,000 USD (equivalent to VND 850 million).
Topping the range is the SU7 Max, which boasts an 800V architecture and a 101 kWh battery that combines with dual electric motors to produce 663 horsepower and 838 Nm of torque. This performance-oriented variant can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.78 seconds and reaches a top speed of 265 km/h. Its maximum driving range is rated at 800 km on the CLTC cycle, and it has a starting price of $41,500 USD (equivalent to VND 1.03 billion).
In a press conference held at the Beijing Auto Show, Xiaomi Group Chairman and CEO Lei Jun revealed that the Xiaomi SU7 has already garnered 75,723 pre-orders, with 5,781 units delivered as of April 24, just 28 days after its initial launch.
Assembly of the Xiaomi SU7 will be handled by BAIC Off-road Vehicle Co., a subsidiary of BAIC, at Xiaomi’s new plant in Beijing. Interestingly, BAIC is also the largest shareholder in Mercedes-Benz, owning a 9.98% stake in the German automaker.
