Launched in China last June, the car is based on the brandโs latest Boyue L SUV. Galaxy is Geelyโs new sub-brand, and the L7 utilises the NordThor BHE15 Plus plug-in hybrid system, centred around an Atkinson-cycle 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 163 PS and 255 Nm. This is paired with a 145 PS and 338 Nm electric motor, and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) to give a total system output of 390 PS and 535 Nm.
Powering the powertrain is a choice of 9.1 or 18.7 kWh Aegis batteries, for pure electric ranges of 43 km and 90 km respectively on the WLTP cycle. Fuel consumption is rated at 2.35 litres per 100 km โ or as low as 1.3 l/100 km with the larger battery โ and even with the battery depleted, the figure only rises to a still-impressive 5.23 l/100 km. With DC fast-charging support, it takes half an hour to charge the battery from 30 to 80%.
The L7 shares the Boyue Lโs overall dimensions, silhouette, doors and angular wheel arches, but it gains unique front and rear ends. The front does away with the Galaxy familyโs signature grille in favour of split headlights with the upper light bar stretching the full width, while the rear end features horizontal taillights and a more aggressive rear bumper design with a large diffuser.
Inside, the car gets the Boyue Lโs 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen and 25.6-inch head-up display, but the L7 adds a 16.2-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. The Galaxy N OS infotainment system that underpins all these features comes with a smartphone-inspired interface and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor.
Other features include a 50-watt wireless charger, an 11-speaker Infinity sound system with headrest speakers, a camera-based driver attention monitoring system, 256-colour ambient lighting and built-in neck and seat massagers for the front passenger seats โ a feature that is described as โluxurious.โ
On the safety front, the L7 comes with a roof-mounted passenger airbag and a full suite of driver assistance features, including Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving capability akin to Teslaโs Autopilot navigation. This allows the car to perform lane changes on its own, and utilise the navigation system to assist in reaching its destination.
Prices for the Geely Galaxy L7 start from 125,700 yuan (RM83k) to 169,700 yuan (RM112k).
